It has already been a year since I had double-jaw surgery and facial contouring with the IVRO method by Dr. Hee-jin Shin at [Clinic A]! Before surgery, I wondered when a year would ever pass, but now I am so comfortable, with no side effects from the double-jaw surgery, that I almost forget in everyday life that I had it, haha. The biggest reason I decided on surgery was TMJ pain rather than appearance. I suffered for a long time—so much that I tried almost every treatment available—and first learned about [Clinic A] and had a consultation about five years ago. At the time, I was told that TMJ symptoms sometimes improve after IVRO double-jaw surgery, but that the result could not be guaranteed with certainty, so I could not decide easily. After deliberating for about five years, I could no longer endure the pain and decided to have surgery. Functional reasons were the biggest factor, but since I was having double-jaw surgery, I also wanted to improve my appearance, so I had facial contouring surgery as well. One reason I chose [Clinic A] was that they explained the areas I needed based on my condition rather than recommending unnecessary procedures. I also liked that many reviews showed natural changes suited to each person’s face shape and features, rather than simply making every face smaller, haha. After discussing my TMJ and occlusion with Dr. Shin, I underwent IVRO double-jaw surgery. Of course, because the causes and conditions of TMJ pain differ from person to person, I do not think everyone will get the same result I did from IVRO surgery. In my case, though, the TMJ pain that troubled me for so long before surgery is now gone! If I had to choose what I am happiest with a year later, it would be how comfortable my TMJ feels even more than my face shape, haha. The recovery process was not easy from the beginning. At first, swelling, discomfort inside my mouth, and dietary restrictions were difficult, and I worried because the swelling on each side went down at different rates. But as time passed, the major swelling subsided and my face shape gradually began to show, which put me at ease. Having experienced it myself, I now understand why people say double-jaw-surgery recovery really needs time and patience. Up to three months, it still felt somewhat like I had had surgery, but from around six months, my face shape settled naturally, and my side profile and under-jaw line became much more defined. The residual swelling also gradually went down after six months, and after eight months I could eat chewy or hard foods without much burden. My pronunciation, which was slightly awkward at first, is now something I barely notice in daily life^^. Aesthetically, I especially like the improvement in my previously self-conscious protruding mouth in profile and my jawline. I used to worry a lot about angles and my side profile when taking photos, but that stress has truly decreased. Rather than simply having a smaller jaw, it feels as though my overall balance has been naturally refined to suit my features and face shape~! A year later, I am now so used to how I look that my preoperative face actually feels unfamiliar. Above all, being able to live without TMJ pain makes me feel I made the right choice in having surgery, haha. If you are, like me, deliberating for a long time because of TMJ pain and looking up double-jaw surgery or IVRO reviews, I hope you will check your own TMJ and occlusion and receive thorough consultations, not just look at before-and-after photos. After deliberating for five years before surgery, I am now living very satisfied: my TMJ is comfortable, and my face shape has settled beautifully and naturally :)
