13 years ago, in my early 20s, I had silicone placed in the bridge of my nose. 4-5 years later, at a large clinic A, I didn’t like the shape, so I had the silicone replaced. 5 years later, at another large clinic B, I had the silicone replaced + my nasal tip done with ear cartilage.
It’s been 3 years since the last surgery. Right after the surgery, my columella was crooked, but they said it only looked that way because of scar tissue and that it would get better with time. Up until 2 years later, my nostril asymmetry was severe, so I had scar tissue removal surgery, but after they removed it, my columella was even more crooked. + The nasal tip was too excessive for my face shape and looked pinched, so it bothered me every time I looked in the mirror.
I just lived with it as it was, but about a month ago, the cartilage at the nasal tip started showing through, so I wondered what this was and went back to clinic B. But the director who had done my surgery had left, opened a private clinic, and was only doing eye surgery now..
The new director said the silicone material the previous director had inserted was very firm and did not suit me, so they recommended replacing it with a different silicone, using autologous costal cartilage for the columella, and adding donated dermis to the nasal tip. I was worried about contracture and asked, and they concluded that visually it was not contracture. But during the consultation, they mentioned the possibility that septal cartilage, which I had never heard about before, had been used. The reason I had decided to get my revision at clinic B back then was because, unlike other places, they were confident that they did not use septal cartilage, but it seems they used it during surgery. They didn’t mention it after the surgery either. I can only laugh.
I was so exhausted and drained that I thought I could not go through any more revision surgeries, so I started going around to the top 3 removal clinics. Today at P clinic, through ultrasound and palpation, I found out that contracture had progressed quite a bit.
As soon as I got home, I called the counseling manager at clinic B and calmly explained the situation. I asked: 1. You are supposed to be a fairly large clinic, so does it make sense that you couldn’t even distinguish whether there was contracture or not? 2. If septal cartilage really was used, why didn’t you tell me after surgery? (They explained that because it was a past surgery, they would have to check with the chart management department, but that there was a high probability it had been used. This was also absurd.) 3. Even if full compensation is not possible, is partial compensation possible?
Everyone, am I being unreasonable toward clinic B right now?.. The more I think about it, the angrier I get, but the clinic is saying that aftercare/AS is only available for up to 1 year, so there is nothing they can do about contracture that occurred after that.
