Both my younger sibling and I had double jaw surgery with Dr. Kim Jong-yun at I-Yu Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. And now it has already been a month since my surgery. Since childhood, I had an open bite where my upper and lower teeth did not fit together properly, so I felt discomfort every time I ate. In particular, foods that needed to be bitten through cleanly, like noodles or meat, could not be cut with my front teeth, so I was always bothered by it. I naturally ended up using only my molars, which also put strain on my jaw. Every time I went to the dentist, I was told I might need surgical orthodontic treatment, but I kept putting it off because I could not easily make the decision. As time passed, not only the functional discomfort but also the appearance of a prognathic jaw began to bother me. After repeating moments of losing confidence when taking photos or facing people, I eventually decided to have surgery because I wanted to improve both function and appearance. The biggest reason I chose I-Yu Oral Surgery was my family's experience! My younger brother had double jaw surgery there first, and seeing his naturally changed appearance and stable recovery up close gave me trust, so I went there for a consultation right away too. During that process, I was able to feel reassured after receiving enough explanation about the surgical plan, bite, and direction for improving my facial shape. Looking back now that a month has passed since surgery, the first week was definitely difficult, but I could feel that it was the process of my body recovering, and after the second and third weeks my condition noticeably improved. Right now, ordinary movement and daily life are much more comfortable. At first I could barely eat anything and mainly relied on Nutren, but now I can naturally eat liquids and soft porridge too. The fact that the range of foods I can eat is gradually widening feels like a sign that I'm recovering well, so I take it positively. Recently, when I briefly met a friend, they said it seemed like I was recovering faster than expected, and that rather than looking very swollen, I looked naturally as if I had gained a little weight, so even though there is still swelling left, I felt reassured that the change in appearance was not excessive and was settling in naturally. I am also steadily practicing opening my mouth, and right now I can open to about two fingers without much trouble. Three fingers still feels tight, but I think that will gradually improve during recovery, so I'm moving forward without rushing. I'm wearing a wafer, so speaking is still uncomfortable, but if I think of it as part of the process of stabilizing the bite, it is something I can fully accept, and I can actually feel that it is getting better over time. Overall, at the one-month mark, my eating habits are improving functionally, and my appearance is also changing naturally, so I think this is a stage where I'm more excited about the changes ahead than bothered by the initial discomfort. Double jaw surgery improves not only appearance but also the bite and overall comfort of daily life, which makes me very satisfied. I'm not fully recovered yet, but the fact that I made it through the first month feels meaningful, and thinking about how the swelling, sensation, and mouth opening will improve further makes me even more excited about the result. I plan to recover steadily without rushing!!
