Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

8 months after double jaw surgery: my underbite has improved and I’ve forgotten I even had surgery

It has now been 8 months since my double jaw surgery. At this point, I’m living so naturally that I don’t really think about the fact that I had surgery. Right after the operation, the swelling, reduced sensation, and difficulty eating made each day feel long, but looking back, I think I got through the recovery process faster than I expected. The part I’m most satisfied with is that my bite has settled stably. Before double jaw surgery, my teeth did not come together consistently, and eating was uncomfortable too, but now chewing feels much easier and more natural. I can eat most foods without any special burden, so the stress around meals has almost disappeared. The swelling in my face is almost gone, and there is no awkwardness when I make expressions or talk. Every time I look in the mirror, instead of focusing on the change, it just feels like my own face, and the strange sense of mismatch that bothered me at first has mostly disappeared, so I get through daily life without really thinking about before and after the surgery. I’m also continuing to exercise regularly. I’m doing both weight training and running at a level similar to before the surgery, and I don’t have any special discomfort while exercising. My physical condition and overall state are staying stable, so I can feel that recovery has gone well. Although orthodontic treatment is still ongoing, the functional satisfaction is already quite high. Before deciding on surgery, I had a lot of worries, but thanks to Director Shin Hee-jin at Iyu Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, who carefully handled everything from the surgery to the recovery process, I think I was able to recover stably. If you are considering double jaw surgery, I’d say the recovery process is by no means short, but if you manage it with enough time, you can expect satisfying results. I’m satisfied with the choice I made to go through with the surgery, and I’m planning to finish the remaining orthodontic treatment well.
