I was a case who thought that if I just finished orthodontic treatment well before deciding on jaw surgery, things would improve to some extent! But in my case, the malocclusion was severe, so it was hard to solve with orthodontics alone, and after thinking through many things, I underwent double-jaw surgery plus contouring surgery with Dr. Shin Hee-jin at Yi Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. After the surgery and focusing on recovery, it’s now been 3 months! I originally had an underbite, and a long face and facial asymmetry were also things that always bothered me. My tooth alignment and bite were off too, so eating was consistently uncomfortable, and I often heard people around me say my pronunciation sounded a bit nasal. I started orthodontics fairly early, so the tooth alignment and visible parts improved to some extent. However, while going through orthodontic treatment, I realized that my malocclusion was a case that would be difficult to improve with orthodontics alone. In the end, I decided on double-jaw surgery after considering not only the underbite and facial asymmetry, but the bite as a whole. I thought a lot when looking for a hospital as well. I heard from people around me that if the surgery was for malocclusion, it would be better to look for an oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic that could address function as well, rather than only the cosmetic side, so I searched for surgery cases from various hospitals on YouTube. Among them, the results from people with cases similar to mine who had double-jaw contouring surgery at Yi Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery felt close to the direction I had in mind, so I went in for a consultation! And after actually consulting, they carefully checked my facial condition and dental bite through detailed examinations, and explained the surgical process and the changes afterward specifically based on my current condition. Being able to hear about the parts I was curious about while looking at the examination results gave me confidence in the decision-making process, so the surgery proceeded smoothly as well. It has now been 3 months since the surgery, and at this point I still have a slight sore feeling inside my cheeks, and there is still a little sense that the surgical area has not fully become as familiar as my own skin! Still, it is not to the point of causing major inconvenience in daily life, and my condition has been stabilizing more and more with time! My bite has not fully settled yet, so I am also continuing orthodontic treatment. I adjust my food intake myself depending on how things feel, and these days I am eating a fairly wide variety of foods, including meat. I just avoid very tough foods and keep things within a reasonable range When recovering, eating well is important, but personally, I also feel that exercising together helps! As I keep lightly exercising, I can feel the swelling going down day by day, and my facial line is also settling more naturally little by little. People around me also often say my face seems smaller or that my impression has changed and I look more handsome, and so on. Right now my condition is stable enough that I can do light exercise! It has only been 3 months, so the bite and surgical area still have more settling to do, but it is also fun to watch how I keep changing as time passes, so I am looking forward to the recovery process ahead!!
