The reason I considered surgery for my protruding mouth was that my lips stuck out forward, so I always looked dissatisfied in photos, my mouth was the first thing that showed in pictures, and even when I smiled I kept feeling self-conscious. Especially from the side, my mouth looked very far forward, which was stressful. I also had gum protrusion and short tooth roots, so I thought I would need surgery rather than orthodontics, and after getting consultations at several places, I decided to have the surgery at Yangyundol Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic. When I chose a hospital, the most important things to me were whether it improved my face naturally rather than in an overly dramatic way, whether aftercare was good, and whether they treated me kindly. During the consultation, they explained the surgical method and the direction of the changes in detail, and they answered my questions carefully, so I gained trust. From the day before surgery through the day of surgery itself, I was very nervous and scared, but the manager sent me text messages and comforted me, which helped me feel much more at ease. Once the surgery was actually over, the time passed by in a blur, and the nurses took good care of me, so I felt less uncomfortable than I expected. In the beginning, the biggest issues were swelling, tightness around the mouth, and difficulty opening my mouth. Eating was not easy either. For several days I mainly ate porridge or soft foods, and when I talked or smiled, my mouth area felt pulled. Especially during the first week, the swelling could make the face feel awkward, but it gradually went down over time. During recovery, the most uncomfortable parts were the swelling, the foreign-body sensation inside my mouth, and the difficulty eating. Still, as time passed, I could see my side profile becoming more refined, and my mouth looked much less protruded, so my satisfaction increased. There is still some residual swelling left, but I am very satisfied even now, and I am grateful to Dr. Kang Myeong-geun for making it look so good. I hope this helps a little for people like me who were stressed by a protruding mouth and worried about it for a long time.
