Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews@jaw-review

2-month review after double jaw surgery for a Class III malocclusion with an underbite.

For the first week, I went for walks every day to reduce swelling and focused on care by wearing a compression band. It was uncomfortable to wear, but I could see the swelling going down, so I tried to wear it whenever I could. It was fascinating to see my face gradually changing, and I could feel the asymmetry improving, so I was able to really notice the effect of the surgery. In the second week, after the stitches were removed, the foreign-body sensation inside my mouth decreased and I felt much more comfortable. Most of the major swelling had gone down, and my recovery was fast enough that the remaining swelling felt natural. Every time I looked in the mirror, I thought I should have had the surgery sooner. From the third week, I could eat a wider variety of foods and daily life became much more comfortable. I kept walking consistently to manage swelling and weight, and a lot of sensation had returned, so my chin and the area around my mouth felt almost normal. By the time I reached one month post-op, there were far fewer restrictions on food, exercise, and so on, so I asked the clinic manager about various things I could do. Compared with the third week, there were no major visible changes, but I could feel the remaining swelling under the skin and the firm sensation gradually easing, making everything look more natural. As I was able to open my mouth much wider, I could eat various foods, and although the weight I had lost after surgery seemed to be coming back little by little, I felt healthier because of it. Sensation had also almost completely returned except for the tip of my chin and part of my palate, so there was no interference with daily life. And when I finally reached two months post-op, daily life had become so comfortable that I almost forgot I had even had surgery. More than 90% of my sensation has returned, and now, as long as I avoid only hard foods, I can eat well and live comfortably without much difficulty. After the wafer was removed, I started postoperative orthodontic treatment; at first the elastics were uncomfortable, but compared with wearing the wafer right after surgery, it felt much freer and more comfortable. Looking back now, this surgery was not simply about changing my appearance, but a major turning point that changed my attitude toward life and my confidence. These days, whenever I look in the mirror, I find myself telling myself, “I really did well.” The face I used to hide and avoid showing has now become a face I want to show confidently, and every time people who meet me for the first time after surgery say my impression has improved, I come to love myself more. Double jaw surgery is certainly not a light decision, but if you have been thinking about it for a long time like I had, I think it can definitely become a choice you won’t regret. I hope my review gives courage to someone.
