Double-jaw surgery for protruding jaw correction: before to 2 months after comparison

This is my 2-month review after double-jaw surgery. Since childhood, I had a Class III malocclusion, commonly called a protruding jaw. I had been told at several dental clinics that I needed orthodontic treatment or double-jaw surgery, but because I had lived that way for so long, I did not really feel that it was a major functional or appearance-related problem. However, after becoming an adult, I began to develop temporomandibular joint pain, and when I saw my severely asymmetrical face in the mirror, I seriously considered surgery for the first time. My decision was not simply for appearance improvement, but for a healthy and correct occlusion. While deciding on surgery and looking into hospitals, I came to focus on the essence of double-jaw surgery as a treatment to correct occlusion, and accordingly I looked for hospitals centered on oral and maxillofacial surgery rather than plastic surgery. Among them, the decisive reasons I chose Yiyu Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery were that the orthodontic process before and after surgery and close communication between the surgical team were carried out smoothly, and above all, the director’s extensive experience and conservative diagnosis. I had consultations at several hospitals, but at Yiyu, rather than giving me unrealistic expectations, they gave me a calm and realistic diagnosis, which made me trust them more and feel reassured entrusting them with the surgery. Now, 2 months after surgery, most of the swelling has gone down, my facial lines are settling naturally, and I can feel the effects of the surgery. In particular, the jaw asymmetry and double chin that bothered me most before surgery have improved a lot, so my confidence in my appearance has also increased greatly. There is still slight swelling around the philtrum area, but it does not significantly interfere with daily life, and I believe it will gradually recover with time. There have also been major changes in terms of food intake. At first, I could only consume liquids, but now I can chew and swallow most foods except tough foods or very hard foods. Sensation in my palate has also returned a lot, so I can now eat while feeling the taste and texture of chewing, and my mouth-opening range has widened enough that about three fingers can fit in without difficulty. Most pleasing of all is that my occlusion is also aligning well without side effects. Although precise orthodontic adjustment still remains, my overall recovery progress has been smooth, so I am looking forward to what comes next even more. Before double-jaw surgery, I had many fears, but now I can confidently say it was a choice I do not regret. I hope my experience will be of some small help to those considering surgery.
