[Usual concerns and reason for surgery] When I was young, unlike other people, I lived without knowing at all that I had a protruding jaw and asymmetry. Then, because my teeth were not even, I went to an orthodontic dental clinic, and they said I had a protruding jaw and was a surgical case. Up until then I still couldn’t accept that I had a protruding jaw, but when I was in middle school I suddenly grew a lot taller, my jaw protruded a lot too, and as I kept growing over time, my jaw gradually started protruding more. Because it suddenly stuck out, I was very stressed, and eventually it got to the point where the complex became severe. No matter how I dressed up, my attention was focused only on my jaw, so I stopped dressing up, and when I saw my selfies, I couldn’t stand looking at them, so I even came to dislike taking photos. Because my teeth didn’t fit together, eating also became difficult, so after much thought I decided to have double jaw surgery at the oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic. [Reason for choosing the hospital] At first, when I was looking for information about double jaw surgery, I watched YouTube and happened to see the hospital’s YouTube channel. In the videos, my first impression of the doctor was that he seemed blunt but only said what was necessary and concise, and when I actually met him and had a consultation, he was exactly as I had seen in the videos. The first thing I looked for when researching hospitals was whether CCTV was disclosed, and they said they show all of the CCTV to the guardian during surgery, and during the consultation I could see their confidence in the surgery. The consultant also seemed to know a lot about the surgery, so I trusted them, and they were very kind! I was drawn to the doctor’s confidence in surgery and the consultant’s kindness, so I chose that oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic and had the surgery there. [The day before surgery] After consultation, I decided to get double jaw surgery (IVRO) + two types of facial contouring (chin tip, square jaw), and I was waiting only for the surgery day. I had to fast for 8 hours including water, so until 8 hours before, I ate everything I really wanted to eat. [Day of surgery] The surgery was at 10 on the day of surgery, but I arrived by 9:30, was guided, changed into inpatient clothes, signed the surgical consent form, and was told to gargle in the hospital room. After saying my final goodbye to my pre-surgery face, I lay down in the operating room and anesthesia began. They put an oxygen mask on me and counted numbers, but I only remember one and two, and after that, without even remembering falling asleep, anesthesia was completed, and when I opened my eyes I was in the hospital room. When I opened my eyes, my stomach felt so bad like I was really going to vomit, my throat stung so much, my mouth was dry so I was very thirsty, and breathing was very uncomfortable. After some time passed, when I was alone, the nurse checked on me from time to time. [Second day after surgery] Finally, it was the second day after surgery! That morning, they removed the blood drain and only the urinary catheter, but even that made me feel relieved. From that day on, I could finally move, so I went to the bathroom and also walked in the hallway. After meeting the doctor, he removed the blood drain, which felt even better. But.....after surgery you have to sleep sitting up, and since I was sitting all day, my butt hurt so much that it was hard. The hospital had a donut cushion, but it was no use.....Honestly, I felt so sorry to the doctor for thinking this, but until the second day it was so hard that I even thought, “What sin did I commit in a past life to have to go through something this difficult? Did I have surgery for nothing?” But I endured it by thinking that if there is something to gain, there must be a price, and by imagining myself later with my jaw tucked in. [Day 3 after surgery] Finally, discharge day! I took off the facial compression band I had on, changed clothes, packed my things, and waited for the doctor. In the meantime, I got my medication prescribed and heard the precautions, then saw the doctor and was discharged. At first, before hearing that even if it was hard, I had to keep taking the medicine until the end, I didn’t know that taking medicine would be this hard.....After surgery, keeping the inside of the mouth clean is also important, so as soon as I got home, I gargled right away. Even gargling was not easy at first. My face was already very swollen like a pufferfish, and fear started to rush in at the thought that it would swell even more from here. [Day 7 after surgery] As soon as I woke up in the morning, I had an ominous feeling. As expected, are sad premonitions never wrong....? Compared with the day before, it had gone down a little, but the swelling still reached its peak. Leaving that sadness behind, I went to the hospital and had the wounds disinfected. I don’t know if everyone feels it differently or if I just blanked out and received treatment without thinking, but when they disinfected it, I did not feel any pain at all. [Day 14 after surgery] Day 14 after surgery, finally the day to remove the stitches! I went to the hospital and had the stitches removed, and just like I had seen in reviews, it stungㅠㅠ Other parts were one thing, but removing the middle part hurt the mostㅠ. After that, I learned how to put in and take out the wafer, and how to put on and take off the elastics. When I first did it, it was really difficult and took time, but the doctor told me I would get used to it if I kept doing it. [What changed after surgery] My complex was so severe that even I thought I was ugly, so I didn’t take photos much, and if there were photos I had taken, not only could I not stand looking at them, but no matter how hard I tried, I didn’t look pretty, so even when I wanted to dress up, I thought, “I’m ugly anyway, so there’s no point in dressing up,” and I didn’t dress up at all and didn’t even do skincare or any self-care. But now I’ve gradually started dressing up, I take photos well, and these days looking at my side profile in the mirror or camera has become part of my daily life haha I’m really satisfied, and the sad memories of swelling during the recovery period all disappeared haha For double jaw surgery cases like mine, it really seems like double jaw surgery gives very high satisfaction haha Now I only think about managing it well and recovering quickly haha
