I am now passing the 3-month mark after double-jaw surgery. Time has gone by so quickly that sometimes I wonder, did I really have surgery? I have adapted to daily life that well. Since I was young, I had a very severe complex about my jaw. I tried to resolve it with orthodontic treatment, but in my case surgery was necessary, so orthodontics alone could not give me a satisfactory result. Instead, my occlusion kept shifting, and I was even told I would need orthodontic retreatment. The stress from my appearance was also very big, and because I always covered my mouth when laughing or disliked having photos taken, I often felt that I was at a disadvantage in first impressions whenever I met people. Double-jaw surgery required a really big decision, but since I was 20, I had been working part-time and steadily saving for the surgery cost. I felt that even as time passed, I would keep living with the same concern over and over, so I eventually made the decision. Looking back now, I think that decision was one of the best choices in my life. I was also very careful when choosing a hospital. The oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic I chose was a hospital I had consistently been interested in while reading reviews for almost 5 years as I considered surgery. The review photos were very good, the hospital facilities were clean, and above all, I had a strong sense of trust in the directors. The first consultation was also very comfortable, and maybe because it was a hospital I had watched for so long, I even felt a sense of inner familiarity. So I did not go for consultations at other hospitals and decided on this place right away. Right after surgery, it was hard. My body and mind were both so exhausted that each day felt long. But as time passed, I recovered little by little. Around week 1, I could go outside, and by week 2, a lot of the swelling had gone down and I started meeting people. From week 3, the recovery speed clearly picked up, my facial lines became gradually more natural, and the discomfort in daily life decreased. And now, at 3 months, I have really recovered a lot. The swelling is almost all gone, and my face has become much more natural. Going around without a mask is no longer burdensome at all. I can eat so well now that there is almost nothing I cannot eat, and sensation is gradually returning too. Of course, there are still some areas left, such as lip asymmetry and how my teeth bite together, but I believe they will get better with time. More than anything, the biggest change after surgery is my confidence. Before, I was cautious even when laughing or meeting people, but now I have become more confident, and people around me often tell me that my impression has become really softer, so each day is enjoyable. I hope my story can be even a little helpful to those considering double-jaw surgery. The saying that pain is temporary but confidence lasts a long time is something I am finally truly feeling now.
