5-Month Review of Two-Jaw Surgery at a Good Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Hospital

After completing my service as an industrial technical personnel, I decided to undergo two-jaw surgery, something I had been considering for a long time. To be honest, the stress about my appearance was significant, but the biggest reason was functional problems. My lower jaw protruded too much, so I could not chew food properly, and because of that I had many inconveniences in daily life, including poor digestion. Like people often say, “Who would get two-jaw surgery unless they had a jaw like this,” I was the same. Fortunately, thanks to the money I saved through alternative military service, I was able to proceed with the surgery without financial burden, and because I wanted more specialized and trustworthy care, I chose oral and maxillofacial surgery rather than plastic surgery. Day 1 after surgery was truly difficult. The jaw pain was not severe, but my throat was badly swollen, making it hard to breathe, and it was difficult even to swallow water. Until 8 p.m., I could not drink water or sleep, and it was so painful that I felt like vomiting. On day 2, the nasal tube was removed, but breathing actually became even more difficult, and the swelling in my throat got worse. Fortunately, I slept a lot, so moving around was not a problem, but my nose was blocked, the foreign-body sensation was severe, and the spray did not help, so it was quite distressing. On day 3, after being discharged and coming home, I felt much better. I was still only consuming New Care, bloody sputum was coming from my throat, and my ears still felt blocked, but perhaps because of the comfort of being at home, both my body and mind felt a little more at ease. On days 4-5, I began sleeping well, and since I was no longer receiving IV fluids, I got hungry quickly. Hunger was the hardest pain, and the swelling kept increasing, sometimes making my face feel as if it would burst. But every time I looked in the mirror and saw that my jawline had gone in, I thought, “I’m glad I did it.” On days 6-7, my body had recovered quite a bit, so I started going out for walks, but I was also worried because of the hunger. Every time I ate, the sutured areas hurt so much I screamed, and washing inside my mouth was painful too, so it was very stressful. My throat was still swollen and sputum continued to come out. In week 2, I visited the hospital, had the stitches removed, and received laser treatment. The swelling had gone down a lot and the pain was almost gone. Especially whenever people around me said, “Your impression looks gentler” or “You look softer,” my satisfaction with the surgery grew. I still could not eat rice properly, but I started to feel hopeful that I just needed to endure a little longer. In week 3, perhaps because my diet was limited, my skin condition improved, and although there was still swelling, mouth-opening exercises went smoothly. I recovered enough to fit three fingers into my mouth, and there was no major pain, so I was able to get by without much difficulty. By month 1, bloody sputum and pain had completely disappeared, and the facial swelling became okay during the day, but it would swell up again after waking up. Still, even just seeing my side profile, I could see a normal jaw shape, which made me very satisfied. By month 2, the swelling visibly went down and my face gradually looked more natural. Tough foods were still difficult, but the range of foods I could eat widened, and I started gaining weight again. Once only the foreign-body sensation at the gum suture area was resolved, I was almost fully recovered. By months 3-4, almost all the swelling had gone down, and the face in the mirror now felt completely like my own. My impression became much softer and more natural than before surgery, and above all, the functional discomfort disappeared, so my quality of life improved greatly. However, the fat under my chin and on my cheeks still feels a little chubby, but it is a hundred times better than before surgery, and now that I am entering month 5, I am very satisfied! I recommend the oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic at Nonhyeon Station!
