I’m so angry I can’t stand it.. The last ten-plus years of my life.. With a nose made with Medpor, it was hard and uncomfortable, and the columella was fixed so it pulled every time I smiled. The nasal bridge looked obvious and the nasal tip looked like a bulbous nose.. Still, I thought that was the price for not having my septal cartilage touched. That’s what I thought as I lived with it..
I chose a hospital that said they build the columellar strut with Medpor, so they don’t touch ear cartilage or other cartilage. At the time, many hospitals were doing septal extension.. but I was told it could be dangerous if they touched the septum.. I knew Medpor was a somewhat risky and hard material, but I thought my septum would be safe.. Even right before surgery, the director reassured me when I was anxious, saying it would be okay because only one piece wrapped in cartilage would go into the columellar strut... After surgery too, he said it would be a big problem if I ever touched my nose again, so I should just live with it as is... Believing only those words, for over 10 years I never even thought about revision surgery and just lived with a nose that looked obvious and wasn’t pretty.
Then recently, out of nowhere, the Medpor broke through the mucous membrane inside my nose, and it was not on the columella side but around just below the nasal bone. It turned out that there were 4 pieces of Medpor in the columella alone, and both sides of the septum had been wrapped with Medpor all the way up to where the nasal bone is.. At other hospitals, they asked whether he was really a board-certified plastic surgeon.. whether anyone even operates like this.. He had also removed my septal cartilage however he wanted.. and after surgery he never said a word about it. I had removal surgery elsewhere, and absurdly, there is no cartilage where the Medpor had been.. From around below the nasal bone to the columella, my septum is gone.. They say I’ll almost certainly need rib cartilage.. and with revision surgery costs and tissue damage caused by Medpor, they say my risk of inflammation will be higher going forward too.. I’ve never had surgery anywhere else on my body.. but I’ve had 4 surgeries just on my nose and have been left half-disabled...ㅎ
They lied about the surgical method, left a problematic material in me without saying a word all this time, and neglected it.. When I asked them to at least process it through insurance, they said it had been fine for over 10 years, so what was the problem... and that because I had it removed at another hospital, they had no responsibility. Before the removal, when I didn’t know what to do and went for a consultation.. they said a negative post about their hospital had gone up online.. and said one of their customers canceled a reservation.. and treated me like a criminal even though I hadn’t done anything wrong.. He asked whether my own nose wasn’t originally long.. then lifted my nose high with a metal rod to show me an upturned nose, saying.. Should I raise it like this for you? That’s what he said... At the time I had no idea at all what situation I was in.. so I didn’t even know why he was doing that.. Only now do I understand what he meant.. He knew what I would end up looking like.. and mocked me while I was suffering.. I can’t forget it.. I heard there are cases where Medpor was inserted not only in the septum but also over the alar cartilage.. It seems like no cartilage inside the nose would be left intact... Even at this moment, there must be other victims like me who are definitely living without knowing... Is this really the reality of our country, which is called an advanced country in plastic surgery.. Please tell me what I can do.. what I should do.. I’m so angry, wronged, and exhausted.
