I had lived without complaints for 8-9 years after my first surgery, but starting about 2 years ago I occasionally had a sharp, tingling pain. After that, I think contracture started progressing. The cost was one thing, and I did not want to touch it again, so I tried not to pay attention to it. But since I’m human and a woman, I thought I should at least get consultations, so I started going around to clinics!
If you have seen my reviews, you’ll know, but the contracture had progressed a lot, so from the front it looked like a pig nose, and the nasal bridge was abnormally high, which made my image look very sharp..ㅠㅠ
After taking a CT scan, I found out that even though the silicone implant used was not very high, there was a lot of skin adhered to the nasal bridge, making it abnormally high like an Avatar, and the pulling of the skin from that caused contracture of the nasal tip to progress. Some places diagnosed that if I left it as it was, skin necrosis would be unavoidable.
First, I understood how serious the condition of my nose was, but since I did not know plastic surgery in depth, I started learning one by one: what the septum is, costal cartilage, ear cartilage, and why? where? how much? As I looked into each thing, I gradually came to understand their uses.
First of all, among the clinics I visited, I excluded clinics that recommended silicone. It’s not that silicone is always bad, but at least for me, I thought I had inflammation or contracture because of silicone, so I did not want to use silicone anymore. I think it would be good for everyone to put the risks they personally consider first..
Second was the medical team. Whether they are board-certified plastic surgeons, approximately how many surgical cases they have, what the surgical photo reviews are like, what shape they pursue, whether an anesthesiologist director is resident, how many nurses assist during surgery, etc.
Third was naturally the cost. Among the autologous graft materials I wanted to use, which part would be used, how much would reasonably be used, whether the cost for that was appropriate, whether there were event discounts, and finally whether the total estimate for the whole nose was reasonable..
The best way to judge whether the cost was appropriate was to ask each clinic what kind of graft or implant was priced at around how much.
For example, clinic A says autologous costal cartilage starts at 5 million, clinic B says autologous costal cartilage starts at 3 million, clinic C says autologous costal cartilage starts at 4 million. If you get estimates like this, you can set the average at 4 million and add or subtract according to what amount is possible for you.. haha I’m sure everyone does that though!!
When many people told me I absolutely had to go around to clinics, I wondered what “legwork” even meant in the 21st century, but I think the best answer really is doing the legwork hahaha I also think it is important to have the mindset of not taking each piece of advice from others lightly..!
I made a list of recommended clinics and started going around!
In the end, I chose the clinic by combining the 3 things above, and honestly I am very satisfied with the surgery~! Even if those 3 factors line up, if the nose shape is not pretty or it is not the shape I want, it would just be a failure, but I think even the 4th factor worked out too!
My nasal tip was lifted from contracture, but it was also sunken, so every clinic said they were not very confident about that..ㅠㅠ
Right now there is still swelling left, so the nasal tip looks pretty, large, and round like a bead is sitting there, but I’m starting to want it to keep the shape while becoming a little smaller haha I’m also so happy that the nasal bridge came down naturallyㅠㅠㅠ
And above all, even though my nose changed a lot, the signs of surgery (scars, swelling, bruising, etc.) did not last long, so people did not really notice haha When I honestly told them I had revision surgery, they said something had changed but it looked natural, so they did not know!! hahaha
