I had a total of 3 open surgeries.
Today, in 2020, I had my 4th open surgery for full removal (leaving nothing behind). The reason I had an A/S revision at the same hospital in 2013 was because the height was high, and the columella and silicone were very crooked, so I had it after one year. After the A/S, the columella was better than at first, but as in photo 1, the silicone became even more crooked, as if it had completely shifted to the side. My nostrils were originally asymmetrical, but because the silicone shifted that way, the nostrils became even more asymmetrical. I really regret getting a revision at the hospital that made the mistake..
The crookedness stressed me out so much that I thought about a third revision for over a year. Even when washing my face and applying basic skincare, I would get stressed and cry, and my heart would drop every time I saw it. I wanted to fix it somehow. But because my facial asymmetry is severe, most opinions were that the chance of correcting the crookedness was not high,, Those whose silicone is crooked because of a crooked nose will probably hear this a lot if you go around for revision consultations.. If the problem cannot be solved, should I really get a revision?ㅠ I had so many fears, like what if after a third revision I end up with contracture or inflammation that I do not have now? Last year, around February or March, I also had headaches of unknown cause that lasted about two months (I am not certain the nasal implant was the cause, but when I went around to hospitals for consultations not for removal but for a third revision, they said there were quite a few people whose headaches disappeared after implant removal). Also, while going for consultations, I was told several times that there might be Medpor in my hard columella.
Then eventually, after going for a consultation for revision and removal surgery at the hospital where I had gone last year for a third revision consultation, I decided on removal. Even after deciding, I was very worried that the sense of loss might be big... but I worked really hard on mind control ㅠㅠ
First of all, the surgery took about 2 hours, and it has been about 5 hours since it ended. My face still!! has not swollen, though the swelling and bruising are probably about to go crazy soon lol
As the anesthesia wore off, I did take two painkillers and the prescribed medication, but there is some throbbing ㅠ Since I had surgery today, I cannot know everything yet, but one thing that is at least... a relief is that what was presumed to be Medpor in the columella was not Medpor, but septal cartilage + ear cartilage. The doctor told me after surgery, and said surgery is sometimes done like this too.
The two photos with the splint are the ones I just took! Because of the splint, at least really at least... it looks like I have somewhat of a nose, but originally my nose is ve~~ry low. I get the stitches removed on Saturday and the splint removed next week, and I will come back to leave another review after removal too.
I am leaving this review partly so I can compare my own surgical results with photos, and also because while looking into surgery, reviews in this community gave me a lot of strength and helped me a lot!!
Please do not ask whether I am not worried about the sense of loss, or whether I am not worried it will collapse if I do full removal. It was hard for me to decide too ㅠㅠ - Sense of loss and concern about collapse - I was extremely worried about both, but because I was in a situation where I wanted to do anything due to various side effects, and in the end I leaned more toward full removal, I decided to overcome the sense of loss by thinking only good thoughts. As for the worry that it might collapse after full removal, I just decided to think positively, that if the removal is done well and the capsule is also removed well, it will be okay, and to trust the doctor who said that, overcome it, and proceed!
I cannot really recommend whether you should do removal or revision, but I hope you choose carefully no matter what and have surgery!!
