I didn’t have any major side effects, but I had it removed.
Two days after surgery, I went to have the cotton packing removed. It hurt when they took the cotton out. But thinking about gaining the freedom to breathe, I endured the other side well.
Two days later, I visited again to have the columellar stitches and splint removed. After disinfecting, they applied ointment and I received a swelling laser treatment. They put a moist dressing on the columella, and when it turns white and swollen, you can remove it, let it dry, and apply Madecassol. At this point there wasn’t major pain, just a throbbing feeling in the front pillar of the nose. At the end, they taped it, pressing firmly so it would heal quickly. It hurts quite a bit.
This was the last visit. At one week after surgery, I went to have the inner stitches and taping removed. Removing the taping also hurts. There’s no bruising, but it’s still healing, so it hurts if touched. Removing the inner stitches stings quite a lot. Once the taping is removed, moving my mouth becomes easier. The director pressed on my nose and said I didn’t need to take anti-contracture medication.
Each of the three times I went after surgery, I saw the director, and he told me it went well. There are three consultants, and all of them are kind. The two operating room staff members are also very kind. They didn’t show any displeasure toward a scaredy-cat who makes a big fuss.
Right now, there’s a pounding? twitching? feeling around my nostrils, and it keeps feeling tense. The cartilage that had been protruding inside my nose has improved. I knew from the beginning that it couldn’t become perfectly flat, so I’m satisfied. They said I need to keep taping it for a month so it heals faster. I also need to apply scar ointment for several months.
For now, I’m satisfied with the surgery. I only have swelling, no bruising. The contraction period will come soon, and swelling at the nasal tip will go down the slowest, so in terms of the shape, my feelings will probably go back and forth for about half a year.
