Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

Yangyundol male double-jaw + square jaw + chin surgery, 6-month review

Reason I decided to have surgery My lower face has always protruded, so I had an impression of looking sulky and wanted to improve it. At first I thought it was a protruding-mouth case, but while going to consultations I learned that it wasn't actually a protruding-mouth case, and that only double-jaw surgery could improve the lower-face protrusion itself. They said they wouldn't recommend double-jaw surgery because the protrusion wasn't severe, but since it was something I had worried about for years, and I thought it would be okay if I had surgery within the safe range suggested by the hospital, I decided to go ahead.

What was uncomfortable after surgery First day after surgery: It was hard to breathe, and because I had to keep my head elevated, I couldn't sleep properly. (The on-duty staff kept checking my condition and suctioning as needed, so I got through it okay.) After discharge (from day 3): Breathing became stable, but eating and taking powdered medicine were difficult. The swelling was very severe. Week 3: I started going to work, and because my pronunciation was a little slurred, I was somewhat self-conscious. Eating was uncomfortable and slow, so I ate separately. There was still quite a lot of swelling. 1 month: After the screws were removed, I started facial muscle exercises. My bite was fine. Not all of my sensation had returned yet, so it felt awkward. My lip muscles were still awkward, so after brushing my teeth I was a little careful when rinsing, but as time passed my facial expressions and movements gradually became more natural. There was still swelling. My speech had come back to a certain extent. 3 months: I had regained a fair amount of strength in my lips. Facial sensation had mostly returned, and the sensation inside my mouth (gums, palate) was recovering more slowly than other areas, but I could feel it coming back little by little. The major swelling had almost gone. No speech problems. 6 months: Lips are normal. Sensation inside the mouth (gums, palate) has returned to a certain extent, but I still feel it's not fully back.

Things I considered when choosing the hospital 1. Hospital facilities and medical staff 2. Whether there were cases similar to mine 3. Whether the surgery schedule could be arranged 4. Whether they explained well the things that could potentially turn out badly during recovery

What I want to say It wasn't a case that would be a huge transformation from double-jaw surgery, and there were many hospitals that did not recommend it, but since my goal was only to improve my impression a little, I think the surgery went well to the extent I had hoped. As you probably know, it's not a simple surgery, and the recovery is harder than I expected. If you're like me and looking into surgery while working, make sure to secure as much leave as possible. Also, considering the recovery process, I recommend doing it when you're as young as possible.
