I had been thinking about double jaw surgery for almost 10 years. For a long time, my protruding mouth and my jawline looking bulky kept bothering me, and when taking photos I especially wanted to avoid side views. Then at some point I felt like I would just keep worrying forever and never do anything, so I decided to really go for it this time. Since it was a major surgery, I looked into hospitals carefully. I live in Busan, but for a surgery like this I felt more at ease doing it somewhere with a well-established system, so I expanded my search to Seoul. After going for a consultation, I met Dr. Shin Hee-jin at Leeu Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, listened to the explanation, and felt trust that same day, so I booked the surgery date right away. Some time has passed since the surgery, and now it has been 1 month. What I feel at this point is that everyday life is really coming back. At first, every day felt unfamiliar and cautious, but around the one-month mark my routine stabilized and my mind felt more relaxed too. What I notice most every time I look in the mirror is the side profile. Before, my protruding mouth made side views the most stressful, but these days I actually feel much more comfortable looking from the side, and my photos come out more naturally than before. My family and friends also tell me my lines look more refined, so I gained confidence that I’m really moving in the direction I wanted. Another thing I noticed is that as time passes, the face gradually looks more refined. Rather than a huge change appearing all at once, I would compare photos one day and think, huh, it definitely looks different. With the mouth set back, my overall impression feels softer, and my facial line seems smoother than before, so personally I’m very satisfied. Before surgery I almost never took selfies, but these days I find myself taking one every day like a habit. It is interesting to see it change little by little each day. Eating and daily life have also become much easier now that I’m at the 1-month mark. At first there were many things I had to be careful about and many unfamiliar parts, but as time passed I naturally adjusted. Because I kept doing mouth opening and basic mouth exercises consistently, things are gradually becoming more comfortable, and all of these small changes together make me feel reassured that recovery is going well. When I went back to the hospital, they checked my questions and explained the direction of care, so I did not have to worry too much on my own. In that respect, getting treated by Dr. Shin Hee-jin at Leeu Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery felt reassuring to me. Even though I know it will become even more natural as more time passes, it is still amazing that at just 1 month I already feel the side profile with the mouth set back and the refined facial line that I wanted most. Before surgery I worried for a long time whether I could really go through with it, but now that it is behind me, I’m also proud of myself for getting past that period. During the remaining recovery period, I plan to keep managing things slowly like this, and I’m looking forward to seeing what changes next month will bring.
