Hello, I had double-jaw surgery and contouring type 2 (square jaw, chin) at Y Oral Surgery on January 21, 2025, and since it has now been a year, I brought a review! Before surgery, I had a malocclusion where my bite was reversed, so even when I was just sitting still, I felt like I was thrusting my jaw forward. By evening, my jaw felt stiff, and I was also conscious of other people's gazes, so I think my self-esteem was very low. Up to two weeks after surgery, it was really hard.. They say it is pain like having bones shaved away, but because I had a painkiller drip during the 2 nights and 3 days in the hospital, I did not think it hurt that much. What was hard was breathing. There are differences depending on the surgical method, but I had the IVRO method, and for two weeks I had to bite on a wafer and keep it fixed with rubber bands, so I could only eat liquids. My nose was also full of dried blood, and because I had to keep my mouth closed and breathe with difficulty, that was the hardest part. Still, after removing the wafer and practicing opening my mouth, I improved a lot to the point where I could even go for walks! If you only consider the difficulty breathing at the beginning, the recovery was so smooth that it felt almost unbelievable that I had major surgery. It varies from person to person, but for me the swelling remained until the 6-month mark, and it still seems to be going down now! At the beginning after surgery, my jaw looked relatively too small because of the swelling, so I worried a little that something might have gone wrong, but as it gradually returned to normal, there was no need to worry! A year has passed before I knew it, and I can open my mouth well, eat most foods, and recover without side effects. Friends who do not know I had surgery think I lost a huge amount of weight! They say I look slimmer even though my weight is the same as before. I have gotten so used to my current face that my old face feels more unfamiliar now! I did not even take selfies much before, but these days I naturally take lots of selfies and photos with friends. People around me also say I have become so pretty and that my face looks smaller, which makes me happy :) I regained confidence after surgery, and I am glad a major complex is gone! I think this is really a necessary surgery for people who need it.
