Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

It has been 1 year since my double-jaw surgery, and I can say it was the best decision I made haha!!

I have finally reached my 1-year post-op mark haha I really did not realize time would pass this fast!! I still remember clearly when I first decided to have the surgery. Because I am on the taller side, the lower jaw that stood out even more caused a lot of stress about my appearance, and naturally my self-esteem dropped a lot too. My bite was also off, so even chewing food was uncomfortable, and I made the big decision because I felt I could not keep putting it off any longer. In fact, the hardest part was not the surgery itself but the process of making the decision. The first week right after surgery was honestly not easy. I remember struggling to breathe because my nose was blocked, not sleeping properly, the medicine tasting awful, and getting through it by eating only New Care. At that point I even wondered for a moment if I had done it for nothing. But day by day I could feel myself improving little by little, and after 2 to 3 weeks it was clear that I was recovering. As one and then two months passed, the swelling gradually went down and I could eat more kinds of food. The weight I had lost came back, and practicing opening my mouth and speaking became more natural too. Around 3 months, it had become barely noticeable from the outside, and from that point on I felt sure it had been the right choice. After 6 months, almost all the swelling was gone and I did not feel any numbness or side effects. The part I had worried most about before surgery was nerve damage, but now it feels almost exactly the same as before surgery. There is no inconvenience in daily life, and I can exercise without trouble too. And before I knew it, a year had passed haha Now it feels so natural that I almost wonder when I even had the surgery. I am most thankful that I recovered well without major side effects. My teeth have settled into place a lot, and the orthodontic treatment is not very uncomfortable either. More than anything, the biggest change is probably in my mind. Before, I was always conscious of my side profile, taking photos felt burdensome, and there were many moments when I felt unnecessarily intimidated. Now I almost never think like that. I care less about other people's gaze, and my satisfaction with myself has increased a lot too. Of course there are outward changes, but I feel the psychological change is even bigger. Looking back, the recovery after surgery was more tolerable than I expected, and time really flew by. There were hard moments, but looking at who I am now, it was time I could absolutely accept. If I had to choose again after a year, I would still choose the surgery haha Now I am waiting for the orthodontic treatment to finish and looking forward to a more comfortable daily life!!
