Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

Class 3 malocclusion double jaw surgery review (6 months)

Hello, I had double jaw surgery and contouring surgery 2 types (square jaw, chin) at Y Oral Surgery in mid-August 2025, and now it has been 6 months since the surgery. From 1 month to 2 months after surgery, there were many difficult, scary, and painful parts, but by the 3-month mark I had entered a fairly stable period, and now I am living a natural everyday life. Of course, since I was a case of surgery first and orthodontic treatment later, I am still continuing orthodontic treatment and I will have to have the fixation pins removed someday, but I am getting by without any major inconvenience. After orthodontic treatment once a month, the pain lasts about a week? (But I heard this varies a lot from person to person.) Now at 6 months, most of my sensation has come back, but the palate is still slightly dull, and the inferior alveolar nerve area, which is said to have the most postoperative complications, does have sensation, but when I touch the skin surface there is a slightly buzzing and strange feeling. I will just have to wait and let the altered sensation improve with time... (In double jaw surgery, sensory disturbance is one of the side effects that can occur inevitably, so you must be aware of this before deciding. The hospital also explains this part in detail.) Still, I am thankful just to have recovered this much by now haha. Also, outwardly, people around me just think my image changed a bit because I am in orthodontic treatment, and they do not think I had double jaw surgery. I think that is because my overall impression did not change much. When I decided on a hospital, I wanted a natural change even if I underwent surgery, so in the end I am satisfied with the result. (The director at the hospital also pursued naturalness, which was one of the reasons I chose the hospital.) And although the amount of bone that was cut away during surgery was not very large, now that the swelling has gone down completely after surgery, the sense of facial heaviness I feel is clearly different from before. Haha, it is amazing.... Also, I was told to keep doing facial exercises steadily until 1 year after surgery, and I was diligent about it until 3 months, but now I think I have become lazy because I have returned to my old everyday routine. But I heard that facial practice, warm compresses, and the chin-neck area all need to be managed well now... In any case, I hope everyone takes good care of themselves after surgery and recovers in good health...!!
