I had surgery 17 years ago on the nasal tip with septal cartilage + Gore-Tex for the bridge. I have trouble breathing, and before rain or snow I get a dull pressure, a foreign-body sensation, and pain. After that I developed headaches and chronic migraines. I’m looking into removal surgery because I want to live. I’ve had acute sinusitis and migraines so bad it feels unbearable, so I want to take it out. I consulted the big three, [Clinic A], [Clinic B], [Clinic C], and [Clinic D]. I went to all four, but I wanted complete removal and I did not want anything inserted, so I asked about it. At [Clinic A], they said it would be safer to do it at a university hospital, because a private clinic would not have sufficient safety facilities in an emergency. They said that after removing the entire implant here, they would need to insert ear cartilage to make breathing easier. So I ruled this one out. [Clinic D] said they would do complete removal + cartilage rearrangement, and if there were any depression or step-off, they would insert autologous dermis or AlloDerm, so I passed for now. They have an anesthesiology department on site, and the doctor explained everything in detail, which I liked, but I really did not want anything inserted. I heard that even if they insert AlloDerm or autologous dermis, it can be absorbed later and feel uncomfortable. Is that true? In any case, they do have anesthesia on site. [Clinic C] honestly told me that pain might remain even after complete removal, which I appreciated. They showed actual photos and explained it as case examples, so I had complete trust in the surgery there and wanted to choose them. The surgical method was also complete removal of the Gore-Tex, and they said they would smooth things out if the nose became bumpy after full removal. After that, they offered options: either nasal cartilage rearrangement, or if I wanted complete removal because of the foreign-body sensation, they could remove the entire nasal tip septal cartilage and the entire nasal tip Gore-Tex. Option 1 was to rearrange the septal cartilage and refine it nicely. Option 2 was that, if I hated the foreign-body sensation itself, they could remove everything from the nasal tip septal cartilage and nasal tip Gore-Tex even if the shape ended up a bit odd. This second option was a little cheaper. They gave me these two options at slightly different prices. The one thing that worried me was that they do not have an anesthesiology department, and I heard the director performs the sedation anesthesia directly. T_T My only concern is safety because of my migraine underlying condition. T_T They said I would be under sedation the whole time, and the manager told me not to worry about the sedation anesthesia, but I still felt uneasy.. [Clinic B] also talked about repositioning the Gore-Tex and cartilage + removing the bridge. It was the most expensive option, and they said the discomfort I feel could get worse and the nose shape could become bumpy like a saddle nose. Then I went to the ENT department of a university hospital and asked, and when I said the nasal implant was bent and blocking the airflow, they said removing it would help, so I said I should have surgery there then. Even though I said ENT is not a place that does removals, the doctor replied that they do not do it, which made them seem unconfident and not trustworthy. I ruled this one out. [Clinic A] has an anesthesiology department on site, so because I wanted safety I’m leaning toward doing it there. Has anyone had removal surgery there? Director Lee Seong-ju said the same thing about complete Gore-Tex removal and septal cartilage rearrangement, and gave me hope that the foreign-body sensation would be relieved. Because they have anesthesiology on site, they recommended general anesthesia. They were very kind, and when I asked the manager whether I could go back to my original nose shape, they said it would not be exactly like my original nose, but that the shape would come out nicely. But on a forum, there were people who seemed to have had surgery there, felt satisfied, and said they were freed from it and even looked better, so I wanted to ask. I am a migraine patient right now and get an Ajovy injection once a month. I also have seizures, so I cannot even get MRA or MRI scans. That is why a hospital with an anesthesiology specialist on site, like [Clinic A], seems trustworthy to me, and I decided on [Clinic A]. Has anyone had removal there? Could it make my nose into a pig nose? Please reply, I really want to live T_T I am going crazy because of my underlying condition T_T I am desperate, please.
