I am posting my one-year review of double-jaw surgery! I had surgery last July, and the postoperative photos were taken 12 to 13 months after surgery. Before surgery, my asymmetry and malocclusion were severe, making chewing difficult, and my temporomandibular joint clicked. After surgery, all the discomfort and pain disappeared. My preoperative asymmetry was severe, so I am not perfectly symmetrical even after surgery, but my appearance has improved greatly, and the difficulties in daily life are gone, so I am very satisfied. (At this consultation, my one-year postoperative follow-up, I said it was a little disappointing that slight asymmetry remained. The doctor said that while removing the plates this winter, they would refine the contour once more for me! I adore you, doctor.) I did not notice a huge difference in daily life, but seeing the photos, the swelling has gone down a lot differently from the six-month point. I had about six months of preoperative orthodontic treatment, then double-jaw and contouring surgery. After surgery, I started postoperative orthodontics, and soon my braces will be removed, so I am in the final stage. In total, orthodontics and surgery took about a year and a half. Until just before surgery, I was unsure whether it was the right choice, but after surgery I am living a satisfying new life—to the point where I wonder why I worried about it. People around me also say it turned out well. (They say they can barely remember my old face now lol; that is how naturally the surgery was done!) If, like me, you have severe asymmetry and malocclusion that cause difficulty in daily life, I recommend considering surgery too!
