Title: I had double-jaw surgery for an underbite and facial asymmetry Because of my underbite and facial asymmetry, I used to feel stressed every time I took photos or videos. One of the joys in my life is taking photos and getting dressed up, so I think that made it even more stressful. So after going to consultations here and there, I ended up having double-jaw surgery and two types of contouring surgery (square jaw + chin) at Y Oral Surgery because the director had great experience and there were many reviews. During the consultation, the doctor said I would look better than before, and in fact I did improve compared to before. [Day 1] The doctor told me it would hurt and be harder than anything I could imagine. I was a little scared, but once the surgery was over, it didn’t hurt as much as I thought it would. Breathing wasn’t so hard that I felt like I was going to die or anything; it was just uncomfortable. What hurt the most for me was actually the antibiotic injection, and being bored was the hardest part. I wasn’t allowed to sleep until 8 p.m., but I also couldn’t bring myself to look at my phone, which was miserable. The nurse who cared for me all night while walking around said that nausea or heat sensations usually happen, but I was lucky not to have those symptoms. She said today would be the hardest day and tomorrow would be much better, which really comforted me. [Day 2] Removing the urine bag, the mouth tube, the blood pressure monitor, and the heart rate monitor made things much easier. The heart rate monitor had been going off all night and was noisy, but once it was removed, my quality of life went up. Then they took off the compression gear, and I saw my face after surgery for the first time. I could feel that my chin was shorter than before, and that made me happy Definitely much better than Day 1. [Day 3] I was discharged at 10 a.m. and came home, then kept alternating between the compression band and cold compresses. My chin was uncomfortable, but overall I think I was doing pretty well. I had no appetite so I barely ate, and I spent the whole day lying down or taking light walks. Rather than pain or difficulty, the day was spent worrying about my face being so swollen and thinking about when the swelling would go down. [Day 4-7] The swelling is slowly going down, and I can drink water or take medicine without a syringe now. The pain seems almost gone, and aside from my throat stinging a bit when I wake up, I’m fine. I spent the whole day with just the compression band, cold compresses, and walks. [Week 1-2] I can feel the swelling gradually going down. I still can’t chew anything, so I’m just drinking and passing the time. [Week 2-4] I have to wear the wafer except when eating, but I can now eat meals. I shouldn’t chew hard foods, but I can swallow most things if I just gulp them down. However, my mouth doesn’t open very wide, so that part is a little inconvenient when eating The swelling is going down a lot too. I do feel a bit of a foreign-body sensation, but it’s definitely better than at first. Director Lee Seok-jae really did a great job with the surgery and I’m truly grateful!
