Hello. After years of research, I decided on my first nose surgery, failed, and had emergency revision surgery on the 2nd day. ㆍ The first nose surgery cost 5 million won. That was a huge amount for me, and thinking it would not fail, I went ahead with the surgery. And after learning that the surgery had failed, I spent 6 million won on revision surgery, hoping to save it somehow. In situations where a person is too shocked and too sad, instead of being swept up by any one emotion, I think you just avert your feelings and go numb. ㆍ After going through 2 hospitals, I’m writing something that may help those who will have nose surgery in the future. ㆍ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1. A specialized nose hospital may still not be able to do nose surgery well - Until now, I was one of those who thought a nose specialty hospital did noses well. But this incident made me realize for the first time that that belief could be wrong. Even a doctor who handles multiple specialties can do a good job if they have skilled hands and have researched that field a lot.
2. You may think an ENT clinic is more specialized because you want functional correction, but that may not be true. - Among plastic surgeons, there are people with even more knowledge than ENT doctors. So ENT is not the only answer for a deviated septum or a crooked nose.
3. The hardest parts of the nose are the tip and the nasal base. (including the nostrils) - If the nasal base or tip is not handled by someone experienced, a difficult nose case will keep needing revision.
4. If the nose was truly operated on incorrectly, surgery should be done as quickly as possible before 7 days have passed. However, at that time, you have to judge carefully whether it is just swelling or whether it is truly wrong.
♤ In revision surgery, once the wound adheres and the threads dissolve, it becomes hard to reverse. ♤ Also, doctors are tied together by school connections and regional ties, so they may be reluctant to accept a patient who recently had surgery at another hospital.
5. It is better not to tell the hospital that did the failed surgery and the hospital doing the revision each other's hospital information. ~ Especially do not tell the failed hospital about the revision hospital!!
6. A place you went to because it was said to be the best may not actually be the best. Do not blindly trust a person's credentials.
7. Do not be captivated by warmth. Do not be fooled because the hospital staff seem warm and kind!!! You’re scared of surgery, and since you’re human, the person doing the consultation is so kind and warm that you book the surgery@@@ Even if you think inwardly, “They’re rude. What is this??” if the surgery goes well, that’s all that matters.
8. A surgeon who truly does well has a hospital system that lets them focus on surgery. They come in wearing only surgical clothes, finish the consultation, and go straight to the operating room~ And a skilled surgeon is busy@@@
9. Post-procedure photos that only show the nose can be manipulated!!!! From the side and front it may look pretty, but the facial harmony may be off, and the shape when the nostrils are visible is@@@really important. Even if you take photos with a DSLR camera that shows pores, for now the nose may come out looking pretty but in real life it may be strange!!! Don’t be fooled!!! ~ Post-procedure photos that show the face, and the shape under the nose are important (nostrils).
10. I heard that the standard for choosing a hospital is to pick one that honestly says only procedures that are realistically possible?? ~ That’s all nonsense!! There are doctors who are honest and say so, but there are also hospitals that say they can do only a little during consultation and then go ahead and change everything however they want@@@ ~ Avoid hospitals that say everything is possible? There really are doctors with that much confidence who say that.
11. You go to an ENT clinic because you want a natural result? If you’re lucky, it turns out well. But in terms of tip work and design, plastic surgery may be better.
12. There may be cases where trusting the doctor and just having the surgery succeeds, but you need to clearly state the look you want after surgery ~ especially if you want a natural result.
13. A truly skilled surgeon looks like a hospital worker. ~ Not handsome. Not stylish. ~ Their temper may be bad too.
14. You choose a hospital because the doctor is kind? ~ A good surgery is kindness. If the surgery fails, they’ll kindly refuse a refund. While saying they didn’t do anything wrong.
♧ This is my personal opinion, and information gained by directly hitting obstacles with my own body and breaking through them. Please use it as reference. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Since I was young, I’ve lived with allergic rhinitis and sinusitis, so I never even thought about rhinoplasty because I worried about breathing function, and I had suffered after one failed double-eyelid surgery before. ㆍ I went to someone said to be the best in Korea in words, in Sinsa-dong, a truly skilled doctor, considering nasal function as well, and had the surgery. ㆍ But here, the consultation and the surgery content were different for me. ㆍ I went hoping they would fix the functional part too (deviated septum), but after the surgery, while I was lying there, they said there was nothing to do about the septum;;; ㆍ Shouldn’t that kind of thing be planned before surgery? ㆍ Then why do surgery there if you’re paying such a high price? You should just go to a plastic surgery clinic. ㆍ I couldn’t properly handle the support part for nostril asymmetry and lengthening.
ㆍ And the surgical consent form and anesthesia consent form, maybe because of legal reasons, it seemed like they obtained consent more thoroughly than other hospitals. ㆍ
I’m really depressed. ㆍ I want to go back to before the surgery. ㆍ On the 2nd day after surgery, when they removed the gauze, the area under my nose looked completely strange. Even considering swelling, it was so abnormal that I couldn’t accept it. ㆍ The doctor said it was because the nose was lifted by taping, but my nose was originally drooping and the nostrils were not visible, and now the nostrils are really large, not pretty, and asymmetrical. (Later I learned it was because they had touched the alar bone. I found out during revision surgery.) ㆍ If the nose were lifted by taping, the front of the nose should be lifted and the back should come down in a normal way, but whatever they did to the back of the nose made it sink in deeply, and the back was more sunken than the front, yet they say the nostrils look bigger. (This was also because they could not make proper support. The length and height became greater and longer, and because of the support problem, I had revision surgery.) ㆍ Just trust them and wait. Meanwhile, at the consultation, they didn’t even know what surgical mistake they themselves had made. ㆍ Then of course there would be no way to reverse it. ㆍ Thinking about it, if they had known they were wrong, they wouldn’t have made such a mistake in the first place. ㆍ And then after the surgery, watching them show me a photo of my nose taken with a camera and saying it had been beautifully done, ㆍ Ha!!! What’s the point of taking only front and side photos of the nose? There was no photo of the problematic area under the nose, and if a photo taken with a good DSLR camera looks pretty, what does that matter? The real thing failed!! ㆍ What? You mean I got emergency reconstructive surgery at another hospital? Emergency is only for when there is a lot of bleeding or something like that?
If it’s cosmetic surgery and someone spends a fortune, and there is a problem with the appearance, that’s an emergency!! Wasn’t the surgery we had done plastic surgery to become prettier? ㆍ ㆍ For lifting the bridge of the nose, they say the septum is removed and the standard method is to correct it before removing it. I asked them to correct the septum that way, but they didn’t even correct it and just removed it.
ㆍ What? The septum is clean? When I had sinus surgery a few years ago, the doctor said it was slightly crooked and wanted to operate on it together@@ ㆍ They say if it’s removed without correction, it can become crooked or a perforation can form, and that worries me too. ㆍ Money was spent as money, and after reconstructive surgery to fix the back of the nose sinking in deeply, I had my stitches removed today and I’m really irritated. ㆍ I’m furious.
