8 Months After Double Jaw and Contouring Surgery: Why I Sometimes Forget I Had Surgery

To briefly tell my story, I had double jaw surgery from Dr. Shin Hee-jin at Iu Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and I am now 8 months post-op! Since high school I had been especially bothered by my long face and underbite, and after becoming an adult I went to the dentist and was told that orthodontics alone would not be enough and that double jaw surgery was needed. I kept worrying about it and putting it off. But every time I took photos, I felt like only my jaw stood out, and even looking in the mirror was getting more and more stressful, so I finally ended up having the surgery! I looked into several hospitals, but because this was a case that needed to be done together with orthodontics, I mainly looked for places that could provide coordinated treatment, and I also valued places with natural-looking results! Iu Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery included all of that, and more than anything, even though I asked a lot of questions during the consultation, they explained everything one by one, which made me trust them, and I think that played a big role in my decision!! As the surgery and orthodontic treatment progressed together, my teeth alignment improved, eating with my front teeth became much easier, and I really felt what it means for the bite to fit properly lol. My appearance also does not feel drastically changed, but rather neatly balanced overall, so I am very satisfied. Before, I paid a lot of attention to camera angles when taking photos, but these days I do that much less, which I also like. Before surgery, I worried a lot because of all the talk about side effects, but now that 8 months have passed, daily life is not a problem and I live naturally to the point that I sometimes forget I even had surgery. Once you get past the initial period of swelling and discomfort, it feels more comfortable functionally and the satisfaction aesthetically becomes much greater. I am already very happy now, but they say the swelling can still go down more, so I am looking forward to that part too!! Looking at my old photos, I keep thinking why I worried for so long and that I should have done it earlier lol. Still, I am glad I did it even now, and these days the moments when I can just smile comfortably and take photos are the best. S2, Dr. Shin is the best.
