3-month review of malocclusion and underbite two-jaw surgery

Before surgery, I had both a severe underbite and severe malocclusion. It was the biggest complex of my life, but surgery was scary, so I went to several dental clinics for consultations. I felt that even if I got orthodontic treatment, it would be hard to get the result I wanted, and I thought it would only cost more money and time, so I eventually decided on two-jaw surgery. At [Clinic D], I had one year of pre-surgical orthodontics, then two-jaw surgery plus contouring in two areas (square jaw and chin). Right after the surgery, and for about a month, it was very uncomfortable and hard, but after one month it gradually became easier to live normally. Up to the two-month mark I still had quite a bit of swelling, and then in my third month I traveled and walked 10,000 to 20,000 steps a day for four days straight, and the swelling definitely went down a lot. As for eating, from the first month I could chew and eat mostly soft foods, and until the second month there was still a slightly uneasy and uncomfortable feeling when chewing. Still, after that I was able to eat most things well except grilled meat and chewy foods. It has now been about 3 to 4 months, and I can eat grilled meat and jelly just fine. If I think something still feels too much while eating, I spit it out or just stop eating it right away. My satisfaction is currently 99%. When I went for a consultation at the 3-month mark and looked at the bone X-rays, the symmetry was really excellent and it was obvious the bones had become much smaller. I still have about 1% regret because of swelling and the flesh(?) left after shaving the bone..! Swelling and flesh are unavoidable parts, but just looking at the bone X-rays, the symmetry is really beautiful, so I’m very satisfied! I started going out without covering my face when about 50 days had passed, and even though there was still quite a lot of swelling, people around me said I looked cute and round, or that once the swelling went down I would look even prettier. Around two months after surgery, I met a friend who didn’t know I had had surgery. When I told them, they said that now they could see I had somehow become more beautiful, and that after hearing I’d had surgery and looking at my face, the side profile was definitely different. Now there is even less swelling than back then, so if it’s someone I haven’t seen in a long time, I think they probably wouldn’t know unless I told them. Before surgery, more people were against it, but these days everyone around me says I look prettier whenever they see me and that I did well, so I often think I’m glad I went through with it. Being able to take photos while traveling without worrying about angles is so happy-making, and my mom is happy too seeing how satisfied I am. Now my current face feels more familiar than my pre-surgery face, so I’m looking forward even more to the recovery process ahead!
