I had only lip reduction surgery around July 2022. The consultation manager was very kind, and when I went for the consultation they said I didn’t really seem to need lip reduction, and that if anything, I should do a philtrum dimple procedure instead. But I had already decided to do lip reduction, so I said I would definitely go ahead with reduction. During the consultation with the doctor, they said to reduce it by just 1 cm, and I agreed. They said surgery could be done the same day, so I proceeded. But the doctor’s consultation was super careless, maybe only 5 minutes. I had local anesthesia and do not recommend it... make sure to get sedation. Hearing the cutting sound was scary. Right after surgery, there was almost no swelling and only the philtrum had become shorter, but from day 2 the swelling was crazy, I looked like Donald Duck. Since I couldn’t open my mouth wide, I couldn’t really eat properly for several days. Also, if you have surgery, assume you’ll have to wear a mask for at least a month. At the time, after 1 to 2 weeks the scar seemed hardly noticeable and the swelling looked mostly gone, so I took off my mask and met people, but looking at the selfies from then now, it looks so unnatural..... Also, in the beginning after surgery it felt like my philtrum wasn’t my own philtrum? And when I stretched my philtrum or smiled or made expressions, it felt very unnatural. I also couldn’t smile properly. << These symptoms gradually improved, but it still takes at least 6 months to become somewhat natural. You really have to wait a full year for the swelling. It changes very, very slowly and naturally. Ah, the scar really isn’t visible unless you look very closely, but that probably varies from person to person. In the end, the main thing people may be curious about, the satisfaction with the surgery, is very high for me now and I feel it was worth the money. But the recovery period is really much longer than any other surgery, and unless you really have a complex about your philtrum, I think it’s better not to walk this rough road. If you’re thinking, “A short philtrum looks pretty these days, maybe I should do it too,” I absolutely do not recommend it. Only people who look at their face very objectively and think, “My philtrum is truly long, all I see is my philtrum, I can’t live with this philtrum,” should do it. Before getting philtrum reduction, I searched for a lot of reviews, but it was hard to find truly honest ones, so I’m leaving this for anyone considering it. It has been about 1 year and 3 months since my surgery, and even now, when I move the philtrum area, I still feel a slight uncomfortable foreign-body sensation. Of course, it absolutely does not affect daily life. Lastly, although it’s not really for someone who had surgery to say... inner character matters much more than looks. I recommend working on yourself inside.
