First of all, it’s been over a week since my surgery, but not quite two weeks. I had a bulbous nose, my nasal tip drooped a bit compared to my bridge, and I had a hump. My bridge was already high, so I only looked for surgery without implants. More than anything, my immune system is weak, so I thought that if I used an implant, contracture or things like that would probably happen very easily. That’s why I think I insisted on no implant. And these days, it seems like a lot of places do nasal tip support + septal extension together, right? Since it was my first surgery, and people say no-implant surgery has a lower risk of side effects, and they use the septum a lot for the nasal tip, I thought I’d be okay. I thought I should insist on a support graft because the nose can become crooked with septal extension, but then I saw people who used a support graft and still said their nose became crooked, so I had this careless thought that if it’s going to bend anyway... I’d need revision surgery, so maybe I should also consider septal extension since I liked the shape better. I already knew that using septal cartilage for the nasal tip makes it very firm, especially extension surgery. And that the foreign-body sensation can be severe... But I thought, that much... the foreign-body sensation may feel different for each person... wouldn’t it be okay? But I overlooked the most important thing. Nasal obstruction after septal extension...... I had never looked this up... I also had rhinitis surgery, you know? So I had inferior turbinate resection + deviated septum surgery. To be honest, my rhinitis wasn’t that severe. It was manageable if I took medicine? It wasn’t allergic, just hypertrophic. But I think the inside of my nose probably swelled whenever my immune system got weak. I had been really stressed about my bulbous nose since middle school. I don’t think the hump stressed me out that much. But since I had decided to get surgery anyway, I thought I should fix all the flaws. A long time ago, I went to a plastic surgery clinic for an injection procedure and asked about my nose, and they said my nose was a little crooked. I wasn’t sure if only the outer nose was crooked or if the septum inside was crooked too, so I went to an ENT, and they said the inside, meaning the septum, was slightly deviated too. So I thought I should correct that too. And I watched a YouTuber whose nasal tip was made slimmer without knowing her nose was crooked, and afterward the crookedness looked even more noticeable. So I thought I should correct my crooked nose and my bulbous nose. And correcting the deviated septum, taking septal cartilage, and using it for extension... I mean, these days so many plastic surgery clinics do extension + support grafts, so if this was such a huge problem, would everyone who got this surgery in this era end up with side effects later?? That was the kind of arrogant thought I had. Anyway, with all these thoughts, I mistakenly believed I had done a ton of research, then went for consultations. I visited a few places where I thought I could get the nose shape I wanted, made a reservation, and had surgery. Surgery result! I was seriously........ wow... I was dying. I didn’t realize how painful it is to breathe only through your mouth and barely taste anything.. But compared with other people, my bruising and swelling were seriously several times worse. It was so severe, and even now I still have so much bruising. I guess you’d call them burst blood vessels in my eyes? Both sides burst, and I had purple bruising in the eye hollows, so I was extremely bruised.. It also seemed like the bleeding didn’t stop well... So I stayed packed for one extra day. Maybe because of that... Even after the cotton packing was removed, I could barely breathe. I thought maybe it was because everything inside my nose was swollen and because of blood and blood crusts inside. Then the splint was removed. The external surgical result is completely satisfying. But I can’t breathe. Still, one nostril breathes maybe about 30%? And the other nostril can’t breathe at all hahahahahahahaha Even when I gently touch my nose, my nose is still really swollen?? So I don’t know if I can’t breathe because of swelling, or if I’ve eventually developed nasal obstruction as a side effect from septal extension + osteotomy hahahahaha... I just keep sighing, so all I can do is laugh. In this time that hasn’t even reached two weeks, I haven’t properly breathed through both nostrils once. I’ve had to breathe through my mouth, and before this I had never breathed through my mouth even once hahaha... Now that I’m searching, I see that a lot of people who had septal extension really got it removed?? Honestly, regarding my face... I was often told that my face was on the pretty side, and I think that made me obsess over my nose even more. I thought if only my nose became pretty, my whole face would become much prettier.. And in fact, I’m really satisfied with the face I have from the surgery now (it’s even pretty despite being swollen), and because this nose had been my complex for almost 10 years since middle school, the satisfaction from resolving the complex is greater than the discomfort from the foreign-body sensation. So I wonder, if the septal extension doesn’t bend, do I really need to remove it.. But... honestly, I can’t stand the discomfort of breathing through my nose.. I mean, I can endure it, it’s freaking uncomfortable, but I’m a college student and also an instructor, so my job requires me to keep talking. When I speak with my nose mostly blocked like this, the nasal voice makes my diction not come through properly, and I myself am talking in a nasal voice, so for the past few days I’ve barely talked and I’ve become withdrawn, and it’s driving me insane. When I contacted the hospital, they said I need to wait and see for 1-3 months after surgery,,,?? But honestly, I don’t think I can even wait that long, and if it’s still like this after a month, I feel like I want to look for a hospital that does removal. >>Instead, I want to remove the septal extension and keep only the septal support graft to preserve even a little of the current shape.... If the osteotomy needs to be restored for me to breathe, then I’d restore that too.... I saved money for this surgery too, so to have revision surgery at minimum I’d need to save money for about 6 months. How am I supposed to hold out until then??? For real, this is freaking awful.. Honestly, even if it’s not a side effect, once I save enough money for revision surgery, I think I might remove the extension... I don’t know why I didn’t look up the side effects of extension this much... I’m not sure right now whether it’s a side effect or not... It could be swelling... But... mentally it’s so hard.. I really hope I’m mistaken... I think you all shouldn’t take extension surgery lightly either. There’s a YouTuber called Kobir, I think? Actually it’s Obir, and she’s going through side effects from nose surgery. She’s very pretty, but she said she can’t breathe well through one side of her nose and would rather go back to her original bulbous nose... I thought, still, she is pretty though... hahaha But right now I can’t breathe at all on one side + the other side breathes 30%, so I’m breathing worse than that person, right?? If I had to live like this forever, I don’t think I could live. I feel like I’d develop a mental illness... I hope it’s not a side effect but swelling, and that I can breathe as soon as possible... If there’s more progress, I’ll bring another review. Everyone, don’t think lightly of extension surgery... You’ll know if you experience how dangerous of a surgery it can be... So I guess just living with your natural nose really is the best.... I’m not going to tell the hospital name.... And since it might not be a side effect, even if you ask, I won’t disclose the hospital name... I’m just saying there are cases like this, so you all should know. Also, I’ve seen cases where removal went wrong too... Honestly, if I could go back to the past, I don’t think I would have had surgery.... Once I save money, I’m just going to remove it and live with my original nose. Maybe I’ll just correct the bulbous nose, though it may be too early to think that way.... Just... since I’m only lying in bed during recovery, my head is so complicated.
