The reasons I decided to have surgery were stress about my appearance and discomfort with my bite. As I grew taller, my lower jaw grew as well, so my facial proportions did not look balanced, and my protruding jaw was a major concern. When chewing food, my bite also felt awkward and uncomfortable, so I eventually decided to have surgery. When choosing a hospital, I looked into several places through Naver searches, and among them, the reviews for EU Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery were especially good. I felt I could trust them because they had both orthodontics and oral and maxillofacial surgery departments, and I liked that several directors collaborated on treatment, so I decided to go there. Right after surgery, I could not sleep well because of nasal congestion and swelling, and even breathing was uncomfortable, but I could feel myself improving day by day. For the first few days, I got by with New Care and focused on recovery, and as time passed, I tried to reduce the swelling by going for walks. After about 1 week, I became somewhat used to the daily routine, and by weeks 2 to 3, I was able to eat porridge and soft foods. After 1 month, the bruising had almost disappeared, the swelling had noticeably gone down, and I had recovered enough to do light exercise. By months 2 to 3, I was able to eat most foods and gradually got used to wearing braces. And before I knew it, I reached month 7. The swelling is completely gone, and the area around my cheeks has softened as well. Thankfully, I have none of the sensory abnormalities I had worried about before surgery. Now I am going about my daily life without difficulty while only wearing braces. Because of the orthodontic appliance, I have to pay a little more attention when brushing my teeth, but now I have become used to it like a habit. At first, deciding to have surgery required a lot of courage, but looking back now, I really feel that having the surgery was a very good decision. I felt good when friends I had not seen in a long time told me my impression looked cleaner, and above all, the biggest change is that I care less about other people’s eyes than before. As time has passed after surgery, not only my recovery but also my mindset has become much more positive. Now I am staying healthy while waiting for my orthodontic treatment to be completed. ^^ If you are considering surgery, I recommend that you think about the comfort and confidence after recovery more than the fear.
