Since I was young, I had many complexes about my facial shape. In particular, my midface was long, and there were times when people around me teased me for having a protruding lower jaw, so I always lived while covering my chin. More than 10 years ago, there was a perception that double-jaw surgery was dangerous, and in my region the surgery itself was not available, so I tried chin-tip surgery, cheekbone filler, lip filler, and so on, but I did not get satisfying results. Eventually, after long consideration, I decided to receive double-jaw surgery from Dr. Kim Jong-yoon, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. The reason I chose Dr. Kim Jong-yoon was that I could find many reviews when searching, and there was abundant feedback with before-and-after photos. Also, compared with other directors I had consultations with, I saw his neat impression and refined personal Instagram style, and that gave me strong trust that he would have excellent aesthetic sense. Immediately after surgery~Week 1 Immediately after surgery, I was in a drowsy state, and there was discomfort from nasal congestion and dry mouth, but it gradually improved over time. On day 2, the urinary catheter and nasal tube were removed, so I became a little more comfortable. I had swelling and headaches, but thanks to the nurses’ attentive care, I was able to recover without major discomfort. Week 2~Month 1 After stitch removal, the swelling inside my mouth had not completely gone down, so eating was limited, but most daily activities were possible. There was a process of adapting while maintaining the occlusion with a wafer and rubber bands, and as the swelling gradually went down, I could feel my facial line becoming more natural. At month 1, there was still cheek swelling that felt like I had candy in my mouth and slight discomfort, but I felt more at ease than before and had no major difficulty with daily life. My occlusion adaptation was also gradually progressing, so I could feel a sense of stability. Months 2~3 At month 2, some swelling and jaw discomfort remained, but after removing the wafer, occlusion adaptation has gradually been taking place. Now at month 3, the feeling that the maxillary muscles beside my nose were stiff is also gradually loosening, and my facial line is becoming more natural. The occlusion of the teeth on the right side is also gradually aligning, so I can apply force well when eating. It has now been 3 months after surgery, and although there were discomforts during recovery, thanks to Dr. Kim Jong-yoon’s careful management and expertise, I am gradually regaining a natural facial line. Looking at the before-and-after comparison, I am satisfied with the clearly changed facial shape and balance, and I think deciding on surgery after long consideration was the right choice. For those considering double-jaw surgery, I really want to say that sufficient consultation and choosing an experienced specialist make a big difference in recovery and satisfaction.
