Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

Review of surgery after orthodontic pre-treatment for severe asymmetry

Hello. I am someone who had double jaw surgery plus two contouring procedures (square jaw, chin) at Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery after orthodontic pre-treatment at another dental clinic because of severe jaw asymmetry. From a young age, I was always stressed because of the asymmetry, and I also hated taking photos. Even in daily life, I had no confidence in everything. Facing someone and having a conversation required confidence for me. When I was 20, I saw people with cases similar to mine undergoing double jaw surgery. Back then, double jaw surgery was unfamiliar to me and simply scary. So I didn’t even go to a hospital. I also didn’t have the courage to tell my parents. I went through middle school, high school, university, and the military like that, and then felt I couldn’t keep going this way, so at 30 I decided to have the surgery. Since I was going to do it anyway, I looked into the Gangnam area, where famous hospitals are concentrated, instead of the province where I live. Through YouTube I happened to learn about Director Lee Seok-jae, a specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery, and I booked a consultation right away without hesitation. Director Lee Seok-jae and the consultation manager kindly guided and explained everything, and I felt there was no need to visit any other hospital, so I decided to have the double jaw surgery at Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Then the surgery day came, and I tried not to be scared and went onto the operating table calmly and manly, but... as soon as I lay down I lost all memory, and when I woke up from general anesthesia I was disoriented, sleepy, congested, and breathing felt uncomfortable. Still, until the 2-week mark, I drank New Care and soy milk very often, and I could feel myself slowly recovering. From the 2-week mark, I also had more energy and my condition came back a little, so I took longer walks. Between weeks 2 and 4, eating became much easier, and because I ate many kinds of soft foods, daily life was fully possible, and I also walked for longer periods. By week 4, the jaw asymmetry had improved and my face got smaller. The asymmetry had always been my complex, but seeing how well it improved made me so satisfied. I didn’t feel like the surgery cost was wasted. They said orthodontic treatment after surgery could also start, and I handled things without pushing myself too hard. My mouth gradually opened wider too, so eating became the easiest thing of all. I also hiked the small mountain behind my neighborhood, and I could feel my stamina recovering a lot. Going forward, while continuing the remaining orthodontic treatment, I plan to be careful not to overdo things since it has only been one month! I’m truly spending each day feeling grateful because the surgery went so well.
