I had been under a lot of stress because of my malocclusion since middle school. I had a complex about it, so whenever I took photos, I would always cover my chin with my hand, only take front-facing photos, and so on. Since I had to put effort into closing my mouth, the shape of my mouth looked strange too. I also had functional discomfort when eating because I couldn’t cut noodles well with my front teeth. So double-jaw surgery was something I had decided on in my heart since middle school. Now that I’ve finally finished the double-jaw surgery that felt like a life assignment, I feel so relieved, and it didn’t hurt as much as I expected. For those who truly need surgery, it’s a difficult decision, but I hope you won’t be afraid and will make the right choice! When choosing a surgical hospital, the most important thing to me was whether the hospital collaborated with an orthodontics department. I went for consultations three times, in my second year of high school, at age 21, and at age 23, but there wasn’t anywhere I truly liked. But after receiving a consultation with Director Shin Hee-jin at Iyoo Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, I became certain that I wanted to have surgery with the director, so I decided right away. Even now, I think it was a really good choice. It’s a place I can confidently recommend to people I know! On the first day after double-jaw surgery, I didn’t have chills or severe breathing discomfort. I didn’t receive the pain-control injection because of nausea that felt like I might vomit, but the jaw pain was bearable. On days 2 to 3, the swelling was severe, but I managed the swelling by continuing to walk around at the hospital. I took New Care with a syringe, removed phlegm, and cleared my nose, so I gradually felt more comfortable. Even after discharge, I continued recovering while mainly eating liquid foods and New Care. On days 4 to 5, the swelling was at its peak, and sleeping while sitting at home was uncomfortable, but there was almost no jaw pain or breathing discomfort. By days 6 to 7, the swelling had gone down a lot, my pronunciation and jaw movement gradually recovered, and the area I had been worried about because of swelling beside my nose gradually returned naturally, so I felt relieved. During weeks 2 to 3, I ate soft foods and liquid foods while taking care of my nutrition, and I consistently checked the recovery status of my swelling and sensation. My mouth opening also gradually became wider, and the nose shape I had previously worried about because of swelling returned naturally, so the recovery became visibly noticeable. At one month after surgery, the cheek swelling went down, and my facial line gradually started to look a bit like an octagon. As the plumpness in my cheeks subsided, my cheekbones and jawline became more prominent, and most sensation returned except in the tip of my chin. My pronunciation and facial expressions also became much more natural, and although I still have food restrictions, I’m satisfied because my recovery speed is fast. Double-jaw surgery is a difficult decision, but I personally experienced that with Director Shin Hee-jin at Iyoo Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, you can achieve safe and satisfying results.
