Hello~ I’m finally leaving my 1-year review after two-jaw surgery! I’m sure many people are considering two-jaw surgery, and I hope my experience can be of even a little helpㅎㅎ I had severe asymmetry and malocclusion as well, so I was extremely stressed every time I took photosㅠㅠ I always avoided front-facing photos because I had no confidence, and even when eating, I couldn’t bite food off cleanly in one go, so it was very uncomfortable. For someone like me, two-jaw surgery was truly a huge decision! When choosing a surgical hospital, I looked up a lot of two-jaw surgery reviews, and among them, I heard that EU Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery was very thorough with postoperative care, and above all, Director Shin Hee-jin was famous for being natural and delicate~ So I trusted them and chose them! Early postoperative period (immediately after surgery ~ 1 month) Honestly, the first week was so hardㅠㅠ I couldn’t breathe through my nose at all, so it felt suffocating, and my face was so swollen that even drinking a sip of water was difficult. I was so sleepy, but having to stay awake was mentally hard too. But after days 3-4 passed, my nose gradually started to clear, and I began to feel the swelling changing. Around week 2, the stitches were removed, my mouth started opening little by little, and I could eat, which was truly movingㅎㅎ At first, I could barely eat only soup with a small spoon, but by 1 month, I had recovered enough to eat soft foods with a large plastic spoon! 2 months ~ 4 months From month 2, the variety of foods I could chew increased a lot! Except for grilled pork, I could eat most foodsㅎㅎ The swelling was also hardly noticeable to people around me. By month 3, I could even chew nuts, which made me really happy. And as time passed, the residual swelling around the philtrum and nose naturally went down too! By around month 4, it became so natural that even I almost forgot I had two-jaw surgery. 5 months ~ 8 months When the weather was very cold, my jaw did feel slightly stiff, but normally I had no discomfort at all! From this point on, I didn’t feel any side effects from two-jaw surgery or any sensory issues at allㅎㅎ Around month 8, the lip curling had improved a lot, and the feeling of the bone being split when touched had almost disappeared. In daily life, there was no sign at all that I had undergone two-jaw surgery! 9 months ~ 11 months At month 9, when it was very dry, there was slight lip curling, but normally there was no discomfort, and as the residual swelling went down, my facial line became softer and more naturalㅎㅎ During months 10-11, I’m also undergoing orthodontic treatment, so I’m paying a little attention to maintaining my bite, but I have no discomfort at all from the two-jaw surgery itself. Rather, all the initial discomfort and worries have disappeared, and taking photos or eating has become so comfortable! 12 months (current) It has finally been 1 year since the surgery~! Honestly, now I even forget that I had two-jaw surgeryㅎㅎ Sometimes when I lie face down on a massage bed for a long time, I can slightly feel the pins around my jaw, but it gets better quickly and there are no problems at all in daily life! My bite has also become almost stable, so now there isn’t anything in particular I need to pay attention to, and there is nothing uncomfortable or worrying because of the two-jaw surgery. More than anything, compared to myself 1 year ago, the asymmetry has been corrected and the malocclusion problem has been resolved, so I’m so happy when taking photos and when eatingㅠㅠ Two-jaw surgery does not have an easy recovery process, but for people who, like me, have major concerns about asymmetry and malocclusion, it can truly bring a big change. Thanks to Director Shin Hee-jin at EU Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, I was able to get a really natural and satisfying result! If you are considering surgery, if you can get through only the initial discomfort, I’m sure satisfying results will followㅎㅎ
