It has already been 4 months since I had surgery with Dr. Shin Heejin at EU Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. The reason I had surgery at EU Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery was that, since high school, my jaw had been asymmetrical and my malocclusion was severe, so it bothered me every time I looked in the mirror Whenever friends talked about my jaw, I laughed it off as if it was nothing, but honestly, inside I was constantly stressed. Especially when I smiled, I hated how my mouth opened asymmetrically, so I always tried to hide it. Then, as I was about to start job hunting, I felt I really couldn’t go on like that. I wanted to take nice job application photos, and more than anything, I wanted to live confidently, so I eventually decided on double-jaw surgery. To be honest, I had thought double-jaw surgery was simply cosmetic surgery for improving appearance, but in my case, malocclusion, facial asymmetry, and temporomandibular joint pain overlapped, so the functional problems were also significant. So I proceeded thinking of it as treatment, not just double-jaw surgery. Since I live in Gwangju, at first I tried to find a hospital in the Gwangju area that was good at double-jaw surgery, but other than university hospitals, there wasn’t a clear option to choose. So I went up to Seoul and had consultations at several hospitals. During that process, I visited “EU Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery,” and the consultation was really thorough and kind!! They explained the surgical plan in detail, and both the consultant and Director Shin explained everything sincerely, so I felt certain that I could trust this place, and I went straight from consultation booking to surgery in one go Right after surgery, I couldn’t speak well and my face was very swollen, so every time I looked in the mirror I wondered, is this right..? Still, after 1 week, then 2 weeks, the swelling started to go down little by little, and around week 3, my facial lines gradually became more natural! As the swelling went down, the contours started settling into place My face had been especially asymmetrical, so it was amazing that the left and right sides of my jaw were aligned, and my frontal face shape became much softer and more balanced!!. From then on, I focused on swelling care by walking 3 hours a day. They say walking is really effective for reducing swelling. I had also lost a lot of weight compared with before surgery, so I wanted to maintain my current condition. Sensation had mostly returned except for my chin tip and part of my palate, and I was told my recovery was quite fast. Around one month after surgery, the swelling had definitely gone down much more, and my mouth opened wider, so there was almost no discomfort when eating. I still had a feeling of something lumped under the skin, but I was looking forward to it because I thought it would become much more natural once that fully went away. As I moved my mouth often, I felt like some of the weight I had lost right after surgery was gradually coming back, but overall my facial line became much cleaner. Sensation was also recovering well, so except for the chin tip and palate, it was almost normal, and there was no problem at all with daily life. I was soon about to have my 5-week appointment, and I was looking forward to it, thinking it would be much more comfortable once the wafer and the screws inside my mouth were dealt with. By the second month after surgery, it really felt like I had completely returned to daily life. People around me said a lot that my face looked better and my impression had become softer, so that felt good too. In my own view, sensation had returned by almost more than 90%, and the discomfort I used to have when eating before surgery is now completely gone. I’m practicing chewing while being careful only with hard foods, and the chewing sensation is fine. I’m so happy that I’m actually gaining weight now lol After the 5-week appointment, postoperative orthodontic treatment started in earnest. Hooking the elastics is a bit annoying, but compared with when I had the wafer in, now it’s truly heaven. By month 3, I could definitely feel that I was living a completely different daily life from before surgery. If you look online, a lot of 3-month double-jaw surgery reviews say there’s really no problem with daily life, and that’s exactly my condition. Recently I also took job application photos, and they barely retouched the lower face area. The photographer told me my jawline looked really natural, so I was extremely proud!! Now I’ve also received my reserve forces notice, and as I start preparing for employment in earnest, I’ve just begun social life too. In the past I would have hated interviews or taking photos, but now I’ve gained confidence and act more confidently!!! Now that it’s month 4, honestly there isn’t a big difference from month 3, but I’ve once again realized what I was told before surgery: recovery takes time. After surgery, I made a list of foods I wanted to eat, and trying them one by one is pretty fun. At the orthodontic department, they said orthodontic treatment after double-jaw surgery progresses quickly, so they said it might even be possible to finish orthodontics within this year. These days, I’m just waiting for that day!! At first I was scared and had a lot of worries, but looking back now, I think double-jaw surgery was a really good choice. It didn’t just change my facial shape; it improved my confidence in life and all the functional discomfort too For those considering double-jaw surgery, especially people like me who are worried about jaw asymmetry, malocclusion, facial asymmetry, temporomandibular joint problems, and so on, I sincerely want to confidently recommend EU Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. The surgery itself is scary, but if you meet Director Shin Heejin, who operates safely, your life afterward really changes!!
