I had significant psychological stress due to malocclusion, and I felt very self-conscious because my side jaw and front face looked long. My midface was also long, so I felt that the overall balance of my face was off, and I decided to undergo double-jaw surgery for functional improvement and external changes. Among several oral and maxillofacial surgery clinics, I chose the hospital where Director Shin Hee-jin works because, after visiting and carefully comparing several well-known places in person, it had the most word-of-mouth recommendations and positive reviews, which made me trust it. Thanks to Director Shin Hee-jin’s expertise and attentive care, my anxiety about the surgery was greatly reduced. Week 1 (Postoperative days 1–7) On the first day after double-jaw surgery, there was less bleeding than I expected, and breathing was comfortable. I had pain inside my mouth, but my headache was worse, so I felt it relatively less. Because of low blood pressure, I rested without overexerting myself on the first day, and thanks to the attentive care from Director Shin Hee-jin and the nurses, I was able to stay without anxiety. On days 2–3, the swelling and headache were at their worst, but I focused on recovery by moving little by little with ice packs and walks inside the hospital. I consistently drank New Care to prevent a decline in stamina. There were days when I slept poorly because of the swelling and headache, but overall it was manageable. On days 4–5, I worked hard on swelling management by walking 1 hour a day and drinking 2 liters of water. The swelling repeatedly went down and then came back up, but the ear fullness and headache gradually eased. At first, I could only consume liquids, but gradually I was able to eat thin rice gruel and soft foods, and sensation in my lips slowly returned, so I could drink without spilling. On days 6–7, the bruising and swelling gradually moved down below my neck and went down a lot, and walks and sufficient fluid intake helped speed up my recovery. The burning sensation I felt in the evenings also decreased, and because I did not have intermaxillary fixation, I did not have much difficulty eating foods like ice cream and porridge. After stitch removal, I focused on liquid foods and paid attention to maintaining my energy, and from day 7 I also stopped wearing the compression band, which made me much more comfortable. Week 2 After the stitches were removed, my face felt much more comfortable, and I could open my mouth more than two finger widths, so I really felt that my recovery speed had improved. Drinking 2 liters of water and walking 1 hour a day consistently helped greatly with reducing swelling. In particular, the swelling around my nose, which I had been most worried about, gradually went down and my original nose shape returned, which reassured me. Week 3 Mouth opening improved a lot, and my jawline started to show little by little, so I am very satisfied. Only swelling in the front cheek and philtrum area remains, with no major discomfort, and the noticeably improved jawline in profile has made my facial contour clearer. Month 1 Through photos taken at the hospital, I was told that my occlusion and bone union were very good, which reassured me. A completely regular diet is still difficult, but I mostly wear the wafer only when sleeping and do not wear it in daily life, so there is less inconvenience. The parts where I most feel the facial-shape change before and after double-jaw surgery are that my face has become smaller and my jawline clearer, and that the midface length has shortened, making the overall balance much better. The initial pain, swelling, and bruising have also mostly disappeared, so daily life is not significantly difficult, and thanks to steady care and Director Shin Hee-jin’s professional treatment, I am experiencing a satisfying recovery process. I plan to continue focusing on recovery without overdoing it, and I hope the final line settles well. To those considering double-jaw surgery, I really want to say that carefully choosing the hospital and medical team, as well as consistent care, is very important.
