Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

Overcoming my protruding jaw complex with double-jaw surgery! 4-month review (Lee…

Hello! It has already been 4 months since I had double-jaw surgery. From the moment I first decided to have surgery until now, there have been many changes, so I’m leaving this review in the hope that it will be even a little helpful to those who are worrying like I did:) Ever since I was young, whenever I went to the dentist, I often heard that I was a double-jaw surgery case. My protruding jaw and asymmetry were quite severe even externally, so I had always thought about surgery, but I kept putting it off because I was scared. Then I started orthodontic treatment, and although my snaggletooth came down, I actually felt like my jaw looked even more prominent, so I began seriously considering double-jaw surgery again. When I asked my dental director, they recommended EU Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, so I naturally got connected with them, and because the reviews were good, I trusted them and chose them. [Immediately after surgery ~ Week 1] The day after double-jaw surgery, when I woke up, I was so thirsty and breathing was the hardest part. Rather than pain, it was so distressing to feel like I couldn’t breathe because of nasal congestion Only after the nasal hose and urinary catheter were removed did I feel a little like I could live. At first I drank New Care with a syringe, and later I poured it into a paper cup and gulped it down haha. Because of the nasal congestion, I remember waking up almost every 20 minutes and not sleeping properly. I was covered in nosebleeds and runny nose, and I had yellow bruising down below my neck, so I think I was shocked every time I looked in the mirror. [Weeks 2~3] Honestly, until week 1, it was so hard that I wondered, why did I do this? But as time passed, it gradually got better. Especially from day 7, my nose finally opened up and the world looked different. My mouth was also swollen, so smiling felt awkward, but as I worked hard on mouth exercises, it gradually became more natural, and I think I could open about two fingers’ width. [Month 1] After going for an outpatient visit, I was able to eat soft rice and noodles too! To be honest, even before that, I secretly cut things small with scissors and ate a little at a time! When I ate salty or spicy food, it felt like the swelling quickly increased. My stamina had also recovered a lot by then, so I could drive and go out without much difficulty. My cheeks were still puffy, but I could definitely feel the swelling going down. [Month 2] At this point, I could go out naturally even without a mask. I’m also carefully eating hamburgers well haha. My bite still doesn’t fit perfectly, so I chew on one side, but it’s being adjusted well with post-operative orthodontics. I became able to go about daily life without major discomfort! [Months 3~4] There is still some swelling left, but people around me often say I look young haha. In the past, I would feel intimidated when talking to people because of my jaw, but now that complex has disappeared, so conversations are more enjoyable and I have more confidence. I eat all the foods I want, and my sleeping posture has almost returned to normal too (though I should fix my habit of sleeping on my side). There were truly many difficult moments after double-jaw surgery, but now that I’ve been through them, I really think I did well. Weeks 1~2 were especially the hardest, but I think the saying that time solves it is exactly right. If you are currently considering surgery or feeling discouraged because it is so hard right after surgery, once this period passes, you will definitely be able to feel that you have changed! I’m doing very well now. I’m just waiting for the swelling to go down more!! Thank you for reading
