If I had to name the biggest mistake of my life, it would be touching my face in the first place. Last fall, wanting to look prettier, I ended up getting rhinoplasty out of greed. People around me discouraged me a lot because I have a youthful-looking face, but I guess I was dreaming while looking at celebrities For the first surgery, I went to a clinic in Apgujeong, and after a consultation there at what was a rather quiet clinic, I had the nose surgery. But the bridge was set too high, and because it started from between the eyebrows, the nose looked long and made me look older and not suited to my face. On top of that, I had a bit of inflammation, so the swelling was severe and I had removal surgery in the second week. I thought I might be going back to my old face, but because of contracture and collapse of the alar base, I ended up with a pig-like nose. I really learned how much one nose can change a person... I realized it. I paid money and suffered through surgery just to become uglier.. it was so absurd and so hard.. At that time, depression really comes on easily and deeply. To the point that daily life becomes impossible.. I cried every time I looked in the mirror. At that clinic, they said they had not expected it either, acknowledged some degree of seriousness, and said they would do it again, but I did not want the same result again, so I turned them away and from then on I went on a mad search for clinic consultations all over Apgujeong, and when they said it would only be possible after 6 months, I could only wait. After the nose surgery, I developed social avoidance, broke up with my boyfriend, and kept my distance from people. I also binge ate and gained a ton of weight. The 6 months I had to wait before reoperation were unbearably hard. As 6 months got closer, about 60% of my nose had come back, which was a relief, but I still looked for a clinic with the thought that I should at least restore the remaining 40%. So for the revision surgery, I went to a famous plastic surgery clinic I found online in Apgujeong, a place that was crowded and very popular. It was a clinic mentioned often in a plastic surgery cafe, and because of its active marketing operations, it also had many reviews on blogs. I liked the design, so I went for a consultation, and the doctor’s words that he could guarantee good results drew me in by more than 80%. Then, in a plastic surgery cafe, a clinic I was planning to go to was mentioned by initials, and the post was exposing what was really going on there. It said a patient had had surgery and their nose became a complete mess, and the patient’s parents came looking for them because their daughter was in a university hospital, and people waiting at that clinic saw the daughter crying and the hospital side saying the surgery had gone wrong because of a mistake. And because it was a clinic that handled things without any sense of responsibility, I was quite taken aback too... There were all kinds of comments under that post, and dozens of negative comments were posted by patients who had had surgery there and people who had gone for consultations, and I was shocked. But the next day, that post was deleted from the cafe, and everyone who had commented was permanently expelled. Even searching the IDs did not bring them up. So I put off deciding on surgery and searched the internet about that clinic, and unexpectedly there were quite a lot of posts complaining about botched results or absurd service there. But after just a few days, those posts disappeared again haha. I thought, they really do manage things meticulously at that clinic. It was the same even for posts with anything even slightly negative, not even insults, just things that happened during consultation.. It became hard to find any negative posts on the internet anymore. Still, I somehow liked the clinic’s design and thought it seemed plausible, so I could not let it go and went back for another consultation. While waiting for the director, the administrator came in and, when consulting, said I must never take out my phone, which I found really strange. I asked what that meant, and they said it was because they were afraid I might record, but I just brushed it off. Looking back now, I realize the circumstances make it obvious that a lot of the issues were real, but at the time I just thought, because of the design, that something bad like that would not happen to me either, and went ahead with revision surgery. When you have revision surgery, careful consultation between doctor and patient is essential, but paperwork signing and medical explanations were handled in a rushed way by the administrator, and as for the actual doctor, I think I saw him for less than a minute before surgery, maybe 30 seconds? Still, the clinic where I had my first nose surgery at least did a basic 20-minute consultation before proceeding with surgery... the difference was obvious. Even so, I trusted them and had the surgery, but,,,,, I really regret it so much now that I am upset. It does not suit me at all, and I wonder what on earth the requests I wanted were,,,. Because correction is possible in the early stage after surgery, I wanted correction, but instead of correction, I could not even see the director after the surgery. It felt like they were blocking access in the middle? Just saying it was swelling no matter what.. Even for treatment, the staff did it, and the waiting time alone took a solid 1-2 hours. Of course, I should have been able to talk with the operating surgeon about the results.. but they set it up so I could only see them after 2 weeks or 2 months, and even then the consultation was about 1 minute?....... It is really frustrating. The clinic staff are also so busy that some of them are extremely rude, and even though they are not the operating surgeon, they say ridiculous things about the outcome... I am very upset. I am not the type to openly argue with people, so that makes it even harder. Anyway, after spending a huge amount of money on surgery, I ended up with a nose that looks harsher, more androgynous, and older. Honestly, even the nose I had when 60% had returned was much better... at least it looked younger... Rhinoplasty is subjective, and it is not an emergency surgery done out of necessity, right? It is a difficult surgery, but if the result is bad and the clinic attitude is bad, why even have the surgery?? I should have given up when bad posts and stories about that clinic first appeared online... Thinking that it would not happen to me is how I made such a mistake in choosing a clinic. A clinic where it is hard to even book a consultation with the surgeon who operated on you and discuss the results!! They advertise aftercare as if it is great, but it is really another clinic when you go in and when you come out of the bathroom!! They seem more focused on pre-surgery consultation than post-surgery consultation, and more obsessed with marketing than aftercare!!!! I just think it is scary. I bet that clinic is still monitoring things now, too? At the clinic they may handle dozens of patients a day, but each patient comes with their own story and came all this way with difficulty. Can they not give each person sincere care? Can they not listen to the surgery details and the results as well? Is it not basic for the operating surgeon to handle everything from the start to the finish of the surgery?? Why are they kind before surgery and cold when the result after surgery is bad? If the surgery does not go well, they blame the skin quality, the body constitution, and if the design looks weird, it is fine to them. Do patients have to suffer emotionally because of bad results and then still have to feel awkward and struggle when they come back to the clinic? And instead of being obsessed only with attracting new patients, can they not listen to patients who are having a hard time because of the results after surgery? It is not like everyone had free surgery. Everyone spends huge sums of money, basically several months of part-time wages or savings, to do this. Patients undergoing revision nose surgery keep having to repeat nose operations because of failed cosmetic surgery, so imagine how much emotional suffering they go through? For most of them, school life or work life gets affected, they take leave or quit, and many receive psychiatric treatment because of mental stress Is the clinic always the winner? Everything will come back eventually... it is a cat with its eyes covered, meowing. Many people who had surgery know this... And finally, to the patients waiting for surgery.. It is right to be careful with the first surgery. Be sure to have enough consultation before surgery. Be specific about what you want, and also make clear whether it is possible or not.. Be wary of clinics that are too busy. (Moderately busy clinics are the exception.) Also be careful of clinics that pour excessive attention into marketing monitoring~ That is my experience. And an honest clinic that tells you realistic limitations during consultation is a good clinic. A clinic that explains even the minimum problems that can happen after surgery is a clinic that follows principles. Positive words are nice.. but a clinic that only says it will definitely go well, that it is good, that it is possible, is a clinic trying to make people fall for it, so think twice ~~~~~
