Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

1 month review after double jaw surgery for a genetic underbite

I had been worried about my jaw since childhood because of my genetic underbite, and after my parents encouraged me, I decided to undergo double jaw surgery. After deciding on surgery, I looked into hospitals and ended up having a consultation at the oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic. During the consultation, Director Kim Jong-yun carefully examined my condition and explained the surgery in detail, which gave me a sense of professionalism and trust, so I decided to go ahead with the surgery. Right after surgery, my face was very swollen, and even drinking water or taking medicine was difficult because the area around my nose and throat felt congested. Up through day 2 or 3, a lot of the swelling remained, and even moving my mouth felt cautious, so I mainly ate nutritional drinks. Still, day by day, drinking water and taking medicine became a little easier, and the congested feeling gradually improved. Starting on day 4, I began to see the swelling slowly go down. The most frustrating part was not being able to eat the foods I wanted, but as the days went by, the range of motion in my jaw increased. The swelling and bruising around my neck and near my ears also gradually went down, and breathing became much more comfortable. Personally, when it was humid or too cold, the congestion got worse, so I often used the dehumidifying mode on the air conditioner, and that helped more than I expected. On days 5 to 6, as the swelling in my face gradually subsided, daily life became much easier. I was careful even about washing my hair because I was afraid the bandage would get wet, and I gradually got used to drinking several nutritional drinks a day. I occasionally ate rice porridge, but nutritional food was still the most comfortable, and I tried not to skip meals so I could keep taking my medication properly. On day 7, I finally removed the bandage. After soaking it thoroughly in water and peeling it off, it came off more easily than expected, and after that, showering and washing my hair became much easier. Over the week, the swelling had also clearly gone down, so compared with right after surgery, I could feel that I was definitely recovering. There was still swelling around my face, but as time passed, my facial line slowly started to show. By week 2, the severe swelling had gone down a lot, and from the outside my face only looked a little puffy. After continuing to drink Newcare, I really missed normal food, and I kept waiting until I could start eating soft foods like steamed egg little by little. I especially wanted to eat cha-dol jjamppong so badly that I kept thinking it would be the first thing I eat once I recover. From week 3 onward, the reduction in swelling became even more noticeable, and the discomfort in daily life decreased a lot. I ate soft foods like porridge and steamed egg more often, and moving my jaw became easier than before, so I really felt that I was recovering. It has now been about one month since the surgery, and the major swelling is almost gone, so my face looks much more natural. Jaw exercises are not a big burden, and eating is much easier than in the early days after surgery. Most of all, I am satisfied because the underbite that had bothered me for so long has improved, and the overall balance of my face has changed. There is still some residual swelling, and I am not fully recovered yet, but seeing the changes over this past month with my own eyes makes me feel that I made the right decision to have the surgery. I am looking forward to seeing how my facial line settles as the swelling goes down further, and once I recover a little more, I think I will be able to eat the foods I have wanted for so long one by one with ease.
