After being diagnosed that I needed double-jaw surgery to correct my malocclusion, I started looking into oral and maxillofacial surgery clinics. I had consultations at a total of five hospitals said to be famous for double-jaw/contouring surgery, and in the end I chose Iyu Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The reason I chose it was because, during the consultation, I got a strong impression that the director prioritized patient safety and recovery above all else. He did not push surgery unconditionally, and the fact that he sincerely considered the patient’s condition gave me great trust. For reference, I was a case that needed pre-surgical orthodontics, so I underwent orthodontic treatment for about 6 months before having surgery. Day of surgery to week 3) On the day of surgery, I confirmed the surgical plan, then moved to the ward after about 4 hours of surgery. I did not have severe pain right after surgery, but after recovering from general anesthesia, I could not sleep and had to breathe through my mouth because of nasal congestion. After being discharged on day 2, I eased my hunger with porridge and New Care and started wearing the wafer. On day 3, the facial taping was removed and the swelling became more noticeable. The nasal congestion decreased, but the tonsil pain continuedㅠ.ㅠ From day 4, I started light activity and had foods like soup and broth! On day 5, I started exercising and the tonsil pain almost disappeared. From day 6, I began practicing opening my mouth and smiling expressions! On day 7, I received intraoral disinfection at the hospital. After the stitches and rubber bands were removed in week 2, speaking became easier, and I was able to start working from home:) In week 3, through mouth-opening practice, I was able to open my mouth, and about 60% of the swelling had gone down, so I could make natural facial expressions!! Overall, thanks to steady care and activity, my recovery progressed smoothly hehe And now it has been 1 month since I had double-jaw surgery, The swelling feels like it is going down somewhat slowly, so I have been consistently doing the aerobic exercise “Stairway to Heaven.” When I exercise, it feels like the swelling goes down a little more, so I think it helps with recovery. For meals, I am still avoiding tough or hard foods, and I mainly eat soft foods cut as small as possible. Even so, I can eat chicken, noodle dishes, soft fried foods, and the like without difficulty. I am also continuing mouth-opening practice, and although I can open my mouth enough to fit three fingers, my jaw muscles still feel stiff and sore. Meanwhile, before, when I turned my neck left and right, I felt pulling in my jaw and neck muscles, but now that symptom has disappeared, so I can move my neck freely. The areas where sensation has not fully returned yet are the gums and lower jaw, and sensation in my lower lip and palate has recovered a lot, so my pronunciation has improved greatly. About twice a day, my ears feel blocked, and when I looked it up, it said this can occur after surgery and usually resolves naturally over time. About 70% of the swelling has gone down, and even though this is still the period when swelling remains the most around the philtrum and chin area, I like the face shape I can glimpse hehe I am satisfied thanks to Director Shin Hee-jin, whom I trusted with the surgery hehe!
