Hello. I had only been reading posts in this community, and today I went for a removal consultation at the place where I had my rhinoplasty. To start with the conclusion, I had silicone on the nasal bridge + ear cartilage at the nasal tip. They said they placed ear cartilage between the middle of both nasal cartilages, tied the ear cartilage, and then lightly covered the nasal tip with AlloDerm because ear cartilage is not smooth and needs to be covered. Did everyone have it done this way? They did not use my septum. First, they said everything can be removed, and if removed, my nose will return to something similar to my previous nose. What a relief. I was most worried that I might hear that removal would be difficult, that it would collapse, or that my nose would be ruined. They said there would be no contraction or contracture after removal because it is not being removed due to inflammation. As for timing, they said they could remove it now if I wanted.. (for reference, I am on day 44 after surgery), but that it would be better to remove it after 6 months, once the tissue has stabilized. They also said the timing is not very important, whether I remove it early or late. If only the silicone is removed, it will be removed through the nostril without opening it. If the nasal tip manipulation is also removed, they said they would open the nose again and operate. I had open rhinoplasty. That is the consultation so far. Right after my rhinoplasty and up to now, my nose has never hurt even once. Judging from that, I think the rhinoplasty itself went well. (I don’t mean the shape turned out well.. I mean it really is not a nose with complications.) However.. I am not 100% satisfied with the shape of my nose, especially because the nasal tip has become slim.. My impression has become very sharp? a bit prim. The nasal tip has also become a little longer than before. On top of that, after seeing cases of side effects that I had not seriously considered before surgery.. I currently have a vague but very large fear of side effects. So I hurried to get a removal consultation. And I was told removal is possible. After removing the splint, things ended somewhat badly emotionally with the doctor.. (we did not fight, but we both got upset. I was extremely unhappy with the surgical result, and the doctor was displeased with me for that.. The shape was very different from the virtual simulation.) Honestly, I did not want to go back, but people say it is best to have removal done by the doctor who performed the rhinoplasty, and that person also knows the surgical method best.. so I just went. I also felt resentful about having to spend a large amount of money again for removal. When I went into the consultation room again today, the doctor was a bit curt and seemed displeased with me, but I calmly asked what I was curious and worried about regarding removal. The conclusion is that they will remove it at no additional cost. But.. on the other hand, if silicone side effects do not appear for me, I want to just live like this.. Since I am an office worker now, I cannot remove it right away anyway, and I would have to remove it after 6 months or 1 year.. And if I remove it, I am debating whether to leave the nasal tip cartilage and remove only the silicone, or remove everything. The doctor says it is my choice.. They say the biggest cause of side effects is the implant, silicone. Since cartilage is autologous tissue unless you are really unlucky, there does not seem to be much concern about inflammation. I asked whether, if only the silicone is removed, the nose might look bent because of the height difference with the nasal tip.. but they said human skin is soft tissue, so it would not look sharply bent like that. But the doctor kept looking at me with a displeased expression.. I felt uncomfortable and couldn’t ask any more questions. They said I could remove the silicone first, maintain the nasal tip shape, and if it looks too strange then remove more at that time.. But then I would undergo sedation anesthesia twice, and I would also have to go back and forth to the hospital more, so the hospital side said if I had made up my mind, I should just remove everything at once. Anyway.. what would everyone do? Would you remove it? If you removed it, would you remove everything? Or would you remove only the silicone? And if the operated nose currently has no problems and is healing well, would you consider removal? Oh, and which part does the support strut refer to? I asked the doctor, “Did you set up a support strut?” and they only said they inserted it between the ear cartilage and tied it.. They did not mention a support strut. Also, I had cat surgery at the same time. It is a surgery where a small piece of silicone is inserted under the nose/philtrum area to help correct the mouth shape. I received it as a service when I had rhinoplasty.. One side is positioned well under the nose, but on the other side the implant has come down a lot toward the lip.. In other words, it was inserted crookedly, so I will remove that too. I think the doctor did not place it correctly.. but they would not acknowledge it, saying it will be okay with time;;; It is not as if silicone moves back up over time ㅡㅡ Anyway, even for removal surgery, since it is being removed by the doctor, they said I need to sign a consent form. As everyone knows, the contents of consent forms are scary.. Facial necrosis may occur. Death may occur during anesthesia, etc.. etc.. I really felt very reluctant about this consent form. This is a bit absurd.. And if you undergo sedation anesthesia multiple times, is it really, really bad for the body? I am worried about that too.. This is a very long post, but I hope it helps. I think those who are worried about removal do not need to worry too much. I would also appreciate advice from people with experience.
