I had ultra-high myopia, with eyes of left -8.5 and right -9.5, and about 1 degree of astigmatism. I had worn glasses since I was 6, and my eyesight was so bad that even in elementary school I already had vision like someone in their 30s. I was so determined to improve my vision that my wish was to wake up in the morning and see the ceiling. At the time, COVID was just starting to spread, so I thought I should get vision correction quickly. First, I was thinking of having surgery in Seoul, but there were so many hospitals that I didn’t know where to go. In the middle of that, I did quite a lot of legwork myself, found out several initials, and searched them one by one. As a result, I was able to find one hospital that had relatively the fewest reviews about side effects. It was also very hard to get an appointment, but I barely managed to see Director Kim In-sik. He is famous for performing surgery very conservatively, so there were a lot of patients. Of course, there were many doctors too, so I think it may have been a factory-style operation. Still, I didn’t care about anything else and went there after hearing only that he performs surgery conservatively. Based on the examination results, my eyesight was very bad, but my eyes’ regenerative ability itself was very good and my corneas were thick, so I could undergo LASEK twice. That was at least a comforting thing to hear. So after a lot of consideration, I set a surgery date and lay on the operating table alone. I had laser surgery for about 5 minutes? per eye, and I think the total surgery time was about 20 minutes. My pupils are naturally on the larger side, so I already had light spreading, and I couldn’t really tell whether I had the light glare that is one of the side effects of LASEK or not. However, I think dry eye inevitably comes along with it. I also used a lot of artificial tears, but it didn’t improve that much. Still, what was pretty good was that I can see the ceiling in the morning, and even now, 5 years later, my vision has not declined much. And I feel grateful to the doctor for conservatively recommending LASEK to me instead of LASIK or SMILE LASIK. If anyone is thinking about LASEK, I think it would be okay to recommend Director Kim In-sik~
