Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews@jaw-review

Prognathism that started in middle school, I eventually had surgery after getting married

Hello I had double-jaw surgery, square jaw surgery, and chin surgery on February 19 haha First of all, I had severe prognathism since middle school, so I had a complex about my appearance. Every time I looked in the mirror, I was conscious of my side profile, and when taking photos or talking, I felt uncomfortable because my jaw looked prominent. I thought I definitely had to get double-jaw surgery when I became an adult, but once I actually started working, I couldn’t make the decision easily. Then after getting married, with my wife’s active encouragement, I started thinking about surgery again and began preparing in earnest while looking into several hospitals. After receiving consultations at several hospitals, the place I trusted the most was Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The director’s extensive experience and the medical staff’s long history of working together gave me trust, and during the consultation process I was able to receive thorough and kind explanations. I had fear about the surgery, but my expectation of being able to resolve the prognathism complex I had carried all my life was even greater. On the day of surgery, when I woke up from anesthesia, my mind was hazy and it was difficult to even recognize where I was. As time passed, my consciousness gradually became clearer and I felt pain, but thanks to the pain-control injection and painkillers, it was at a tolerable level. However, because I had to breathe only through my mouth, my mouth became dry and the stuffiness grew, which was uncomfortable. For the first week after discharge, I lived on liquid nutritional foods like New Care. The pain was not severe, but the fact that I still had to breathe only through my mouth was the most uncomfortable part. My face was very swollen, so every time I looked in the mirror it felt unfamiliar, but I could see it gradually improving over time. Entering the second week, I became able to breathe through my nose, and thanks to that, daily life became much easier. However, because I could not eat foods that required chewing, I had to eat mainly liquid foods, and because of this, even though my appetite had increased, it was very disappointing not being able to eat what I wanted. In particular, whenever I went for a walk and passed a fried chicken restaurant, it was hard to hold back my desire to eat. From the third week, I gradually increased my activity level. I kept taking walks and ate soft foods like New Care or soft tofu, and I searched for foods I could eat by crushing them with my tongue without chewing. From this period on, except for facial swelling, I was able to live almost normally. After one month had passed since surgery, I could really feel that my appearance in the mirror had clearly changed. As the prognathism disappeared and my facial contour became softer, people around me also reacted by saying things like “your face got smaller,” “you look 10 years younger,” and “your impression has become much softer.” Just the fact that I had resolved the complex I had carried all my life was satisfying enough, and I thought I had made the right decision to have surgery. I think it is important for people considering double-jaw surgery to make a careful decision after sufficient consultation. This is because you need to consider not only cosmetic changes but also functional aspects such as bite problems or improvement of temporomandibular joint function. Also, during the recovery period after surgery, you have to endure dietary restrictions, swelling, and discomfort with breathing, but because the change is that significant, a careful choice is necessary. If you are struggling with prognathism like I was, I believe that if you choose a trustworthy hospital and do thorough preparation beforehand and aftercare afterward, you can achieve sufficiently satisfying results!!
