Hello haha.... I always only lurked, but now I’m leaving a removal review like this. In mid-October last year, I had surgery for a hump nose osteotomy (septal extension graft), 2 layers of ear cartilage in the nasal tip, 1 layer of ear cartilage placed on the sunken-looking part of the nasal dorsum, and a 2 mm septal columellar support strut. This Wednesday, I had everything removed.
After the nose surgery, the shape wasn’t so strange that people would notice unless I told them, and it wasn’t a pinched nose, but after surgery the cartilage in the nasal tip felt hard, and because they had put in a lot of cartilage, my nasal tip looked even blunter than before surgery, which I really, really hated. For the columella area too, because the septal support strut had been placed, I always had anxiety that I had to be careful. The ear cartilage seemed to be showing through more and more, my nose seemed to look longer,, and the nasal bridge area where I had lateral osteotomy also seemed like the osteotomy had been done too aggressively, making it look sunken.. I disliked everything. I thought about early removal, but I missed the timing and spent each day feeling depressed. Originally, my hump nose was my complex, so I got plastic surgery, but I ended up making a rushed decision about the nasal tip, which I had never planned to touch, just because of one recommendation from the plastic surgery clinic director.. After the surgery, I ended up with an even bigger complex, and while looking at old photos and videos and going in and out of this community, I just waited to reach 6 months. Even before 6 months had passed, I went around looking into removal hospitals, and I heard a lot of things from directors like, “It doesn’t look that strange, so why do you want to remove it?” But I missed my round, soft-looking impression so much, and my changed impression was severe enough that I developed social avoidance and depression, and even my personality changed.
Once 6 months actually passed, I started worrying about all kinds of things, like if I remove the support strut, I might get a saddle nose, columellar collapse could happen.. Since I had the surgery through an open approach, if I have another open surgery, the scar might look bad, and so on. I was under enormous stress again and even developed insomnia. After worrying and worrying for another month, I had been so stressed that I couldn’t focus on anything and daily life was impossible, so I thought removal must be the answer and had removal surgery.
I had it done at ㅅㅅㅇ Plastic Surgery, and except for the 1 layer of ear cartilage on the sunken-looking nasal dorsum, I had the ear cartilage in the nasal tip and the entire columellar support strut removed. They said my septum was deviated. The surgery took about an hour and a half, and as soon as it was removed, the ear cartilage was gone, so the pointy area became blunter. I didn’t have a splint or taping, and since I bled until the next day, I kept gauze on. My home is nearby, so the next day I went to the hospital for disinfection and also had swelling laser treatment.
Objectively, I think my nose shape was better before removal. My family said that after removing it, my nasal tip got bigger and wider.. haha.. hahahaha And I don’t think I can go completely back to my original nose. The pinched feeling in the nasal tip spread a bit as the cartilage was released, and as the tip became rounder, I can see a little of my old original nasal tip shape. But the columellar skin has stretched, and although I originally had a bit of flesh on my nasal tip, after two surgeries, a lot of scar tissue formed around the nasal ala and nasal tip, so I’ve become a bulbous-nose person... Still, I’m satisfied that my impression has become softer and that my nasal tip is a bit soft, and because this was something I had been worrying over and agonizing about for 7 months, I feel so, so relieved.
So far, there has been absolutely no columellar collapse, contraction, or upturning. They said the nasal tip height would come down, but it didn’t come down... The director was also a bit flustered? saying, “Why isn’t it coming down?” hahahaha haha.. And since my original nose was a bit droopy, once the support strut was removed, it drooped right away haha.. hahahaha I expected this, so it’s fine, and if anything, I’m a liiittle glad to see my old appearance again.
In conclusion.. I’m satisfied. I’ll know more after some time passes, but for those removing because a septal support strut was placed or because the nasal tip cartilage is showing through, even after removal, nothing terrible happens.. haha.. I was so, so worried, but the director and consultant listened to all my worries and operated in the direction I wanted, so I’m satisfied.
They say if scar tissue forms, it becomes hard and a contraction phase can also come, so I’m a little scared... I’m going to get my stitches removed tomorrow, and I want to get them out quickly lololol Honestly, even now I keep looking in the mirror and going in and out of this community while worrying, but since I don’t think I’ll ever have revision surgery again, I also feel relieved on one hand.. haha
To those who are really suffering because of their nose, stay strong, get good consultations, and I hope we can all quickly shake off our worries together ㅠㅠㅠ After some time passes, I’ll post another review.
