I had the silicone and septal support strut removed last June, and now it has been 1 year!
First surgery Over 10+n years ago, I had my hump shaved down and underwent surgery with 5 mm silicone + a septal support strut + AlloDerm.
How I feel At 1 year. I really don't worry about my nose anymore. In the past, I thought a high, sharp nose was always pretty, but after the silicone started showing through severely, that became my biggest complex, so these days after removal, I’m so happy that my nose is lower. I like that the overly strong impression is gone. I also like the feeling of touching my soft nose every time I put on makeup, and I’m happy that I can freely make a pig nose now, which I couldn’t do before. And I only realized after removing it that a nose without silicone could feel this light, happy, and refreshed.
Shape changes After the splint was removed, only the swelling steadily went down. There were no shape changes even during the contracture period. My nose now is higher than my original nose. I thought about why that might be, and when I had a problem with my nose about 3 years after the first surgery with AlloDerm, the doctor at the clinic where I first had surgery put in AlloDerm again. So I think my nasal tip is more defined than my original nose. (Just my guess) The nasal bridge did not become much lower, just as the doctor who removed it said. I had the septal support strut removed, but it did not collapse, and I have had no problems up to the 1-year mark.
What was difficult after removal A few years ago, I had a lot of consultations about removal, but the doctors all said removal would not be good, so I gave up. And in this community, there were many posts saying that if you remove a septal support strut, the nose will collapse and it will be a big problem, and I also saw many posts saying the nose shape would keep changing until the 1-year mark. So even after removal, I had a hard time because I was worried about an unseen future, wondering what if that happened to me too. I’m the sensitive type, so I had a huge number of nightmares too. They were all useless worriesㅠㅠ And during the contracture period, there were no shape changes, but the pain was tremendous. I don’t know if I’m just sensitive, but even after removal, whenever I was on my period or my body got a little tired, headaches would come first, and I would also get slight pain in my nose, so I struggled a lot. Ah, of course, now nothing hurts at all and I feel refreshed!!!
It feels like I’ve passed through a long tunnel. I went through a lot and learned many lessons. Still, I’m always grateful that my nose returned well to its original state. Thank you for reading this long, long post.
