Since around the middle of last year, my nasal bridge would swell up when I drank alcohol or was tired. Even when I went to the hospital where I had surgery, the swelling had already gone down, so they said there was absolutely no inflammation and I just lived with it. But in January this year, my nasal bridge swelled and the inflammation came up to the point that it felt soft and squishy, so when I went in, they said it was inflammation. That same day, I immediately got an IV injection and was prescribed antibiotics to take. I got injections for about two weeks, and after seeing my columella sink in quickly, I decided to remove it. It had already been sunken originally, but it got worse.
I consulted with about 9 hospitals. Some hospitals said the inflammation might be severe, so I should remove only the silicone, while others said that if I removed only the silicone, my nose would turn up, so I should have revision surgery. I worried a lotㅜㅜ Even when I went after reading reviews, some places were different from what I had expected, and most places had a surgical direction different from what I wanted, so I think I really agonized over choosing a hospital.
At the previous hospital, they used all of the cartilage from one ear in my first surgery and also used part of the other ear for revision columella correction, so there was little usable ear cartilage left. Even until the day of surgery, there was a possibility that if my septal cartilage was weak, I might have to use costal cartilage, so I worried a lot and went into surgery just hoping my septal cartilage would be strong. Fortunately, my septal cartilage was usable, and my columella was corrected a lot too. From the front it wasn’t very noticeable, but even from a slight diagonal angle, the sunken columella was very visible.
My friends say my columella protrudes much more now, my nasal bridge didn’t get lowered as much as expected, and the turned-up part came down, so my nose is better now haha. When I look at it too, the side shape is a bit like a half-beoseon shape? so I like it. Of course, from the front it isn’t slim, and in photos it does come out looking wide, but in real life people around me don’t notice.
I think I also experienced what people commonly call the contraction period. It felt like my nose was turning up, and sometimes at night the area between my eyebrows felt soft, swollen, and tight. But it was really only at those times; it came back down again, and now it has been almost 3 months since surgery with no inflammatory reaction at all, so I’m living with a very peaceful mind.
Before surgery, I also looked at cases that turned out worse and worried every day, thinking, what if I become like that too? I practically lived on this community, but after removal I understand why people stop coming in. Don’t worry too much before surgery, and I think it would be good to do a lot of legwork and find a hospital that you think will suit you haha.
