Nose Re-Surgery@rhino-redo

I had everything removed this morning! Rather than a full review, this is more about up to now...

It’s very, very long Please read only if you can read the whole thing.. 11 years ago, my natural double eyelids kept coming undone whenever I ate something and slept, so I went in to have them pinched/fixed, but I got talked into an add-on by the coordinator.. and ended up getting implant surgery in my nose and anterior chin too.. Honestly, my chin was fine too,.. and my nose was on the higher side, so I had never even thought about plastic surgery.. I think it’s fair to say I really got taken in.. I had a slightly protruding mouth, and they said if I put implants in my anterior chin and nose, that would make it look smoother so the protruding mouth wouldn’t show, and they also told me that if I did it, I would become really, really pretty.. that my face was already pretty, so just a little work would make it beautiful. I fell for that persuasion. Stupidly... For about a week after first putting the implants in, I regretted it so much. It was surgery I had never even thought about. My face had changed so much, and I was also consumed by a sense of guilt that I’d had plastic surgery? A sense of guilt that there was a foreign implant in my face?... So I cried at home every day and regretted it, and I remember my mom and dad having such a hard time too. (Thinking about it now, I was an unfilial child...) Then after a week passed and the swelling went down a bit, the contours started to show and I started looking prettier little by little, so my mom and dad told me I’d done well to get it done (maybe they said that because their daughter was having such a hard time..ㅠㅠ), and because my boyfriend (now my husband) and my school friends said I looked so pretty, all those feelings of regret disappeared. (Really simple-minded...) Thinking, “So this is what being pretty is,” I spent about 10 years like that. Thanks to that, I did always get attention at school, outside, and at work. But thinking about it now.. I was fairly pretty even before surgery, but I think I got more attention because that very distinct, three-dimensional face looked flashy. My job isn’t one where I work with my face, but since I have a job where appearance is still somewhat important, there were many people with flashy noses and chins like this, so I thought this was natural too. But sometimes, when I saw photos taken from certain angles or videos my husband took for fun, I felt that my face looked very unnatural.. and strange. But the me I saw in the mirror still looked pretty, so I didn’t think much of it. Then I had a baby. And I wasn’t able to work. But one day, by chance, I read a post about side effects. I also saw a doctor saying that they had never seen Gore-Tex maintained for more than 20 years at the longest. Until this morning, I thought my chin implant was Gore-Tex.. (It was actually silicone. But there is something even more shocking.) As I started reading those posts, I suddenly felt like my chin and nose hurt. Suddenly it hurt all the way under my ears.. my entire lower jaw hurt all over~ It wasn’t extremely painful, just occasionally a tingling, zapping feeling? So I became very scared and went for a consultation last Saturday. The doctor said there was no inflammatory reaction, so I didn’t have to remove them, but if I was anxious, I could consider it. And he also confirmed that the nasal silicone was slightly showing through.. When I looked closely, the bridge of my nose was also crooked, very noticeably. But I lived 11 years without knowing that... haha I didn’t know. Maybe it’s because I’m so dull.ㅠㅜㅜㅜㅜ After that consultation, I became certain about removal.

Since my husband knows my face from before surgery anyway, going back to how I was before wasn’t a huge burden, but if something is there and then gone, I might look uglier.. and I was also scared of the swelling and contraction period.. and because they had shaved down my hump, I was told my nasal bridge might look lower and it could never become my old nose again.. so I was very anxious.

But after hearing about the tingling in my chin and that the implant was showing through in my nose, I couldn’t not remove them. So I booked right away for Tuesday, and then this morning came.

(From here is the removal review)

I couldn’t sleep from the night before. My husband told me to sleep well and even took care of all the baby’s night feedings (we usually take turns), and because I was so anxious, he hugged me tightly and everything. (If there’s one thing I did best in this world, it was meeting my husband, and if there’s one thing I regret most, it’s getting plastic surgery. Double eyelids excluded.) Then the time came, and because the subway felt dangerous due to COVID, I took a taxi. Because I was anxious, I arrived almost an hour early... lol But about 20 minutes later, a female nurse came and told me to come in, so I went in. But? The doctor was already at the clinic. At that moment I really thought, ah, this doctor is trustworthy. He must have come much earlier than opening time to prepare and wake himself up mentally and all that. So I thought, ah, I chose the clinic well.. I went to the recovery room, changed clothes, waited, had a consultation, and then thought, “Why am I doing this when there’s no inflammation!” so I said I wouldn’t do it, changed clothes, and left.. then went back in and had the surgery... lol

First, on ultrasound, whether fortunately or unfortunately for my recessed chin... (I’ll explain later) it was silicone. So I cheered.

Then I went into the operating room and as I was being anesthetized and falling asleep.. “Doctor, please make it pretty...ㅜㅜㅜ Thank you, I’m sorry..” That’s the last thing I remember saying before falling asleep. Then when I woke up, they were stitching the inside of my lip. It was tolerable and didn’t hurt,

but the nurse said it was good I had done it.. that my chin was in bad condition. So I became full of worry and waited in the recovery room.

Then I met the doctor again and had a consultation, and he said my chin... had eroded by a whopping 7 mm to 8 mm...

I clearly read online that when silicone is placed for a recessed chin, usually only 2-3 mm of bone erosion happens, but in my case, erosion had happened to almost 1 cm. When I saw photos from during the surgery, my lower jaw had eroded so, so, so, so much.. I was truly shocked. But because the anterior chin has muscle and flesh, he said that even though it had eroded a lot, it probably wouldn’t be very noticeable on the outside, and that I would recover over a very long time compared to other people (he did say the bone does come back).

My anterior chin isn’t even that small, but they had put something far too large in my anterior chin.. so he said a lot of erosion happened. Also, it’s usually placed only in the front, but mine extended to the sides too... He said the chin took longer than the nose... sigh...

Also, for the nose, usually one piece of ear cartilage is placed below? above? the silicone, but in my case it was placed both above and below, and there were adhesions..ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ

Also, the right nasal dorsum was raised, so he shaved it down to match the left side..ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ (It won’t get too much lower, right?) He removed everything. He did cartilage repositioning. He did not do cartilage tying. Because with my personality, if I left anything behind or did anything else again, I thought I’d be anxious again later...

So I had the surgery.. had the consultation, said sorry to the doctors, got my medication prescribed.. and now I’m home.

Right now I’m very swollen, so I can’t feel a big difference. But as the swelling goes down and it becomes a little lower.. well, I’ll have to adjust somehow...ㅜㅜㅜㅜㅜ

But I absolutely do not regret removing them. I regret getting surgery 11 years ago.

If I hadn’t removed them now, my chin would have reached the dental nerve... my nose silicone would have shown through more and more... and I would have been trembling in fear.

After surgery, my mind feels so relieved. I’m trying to think positively, like, “So what if it gets lower? My old nose and old chin were pretty too!”

I am a bit worried because my chin eroded quite a lot...! Still, he said there would be no visible difference, so that’s a relief. Probably.. But he said we’ll know once the swelling goes down... haha I believe it will be okay.

Since I searched for so many removal reviews, if I were to briefly tell you what might be helpful..

I had cartilage repositioning, I did not have cartilage tying. It was done closed, and I did not have inflammation or contracture. It started simply from anxiety, but there was bone erosion and silicone show-through. Because I have a baby, it was hard to make time for consultations, so I only consulted here, and I just had the surgery there too, and I’m very satisfied.

I want my chin and nose to become exactly the same as before. For those who have had removal, are you all satisfied?
