Hello.! I started orthodontic treatment about 6 years ago at Combi Dental Clinic in Myeong-dong, Seoul, and received treatment for about 1 year.
(Started around October 2018 ~ finished in December 2019)
My jawbone and teeth were originally much smaller than other people’s, almost child-sized, and my teeth were especially weak, meaning they tended to get damaged easily.
Compared with the average orthodontic treatment speed, mine finished quite quickly.! Before orthodontic treatment, I had a protruding snaggletooth, so even when I clenched my mouth shut, it didn’t close well and stuck out slightly My tongue is originally a bit short too, but because of my oral structure, I often bit my tongue and my pronunciation got muddled, so words with double S sounds and R/L-type sounds didn’t come out well.
I had wisdom teeth, but I was told orthodontic treatment could proceed without extraction, and that extracting them could instead make the inside of my mouth cave inward? Something like that.
I wore metal orthodontic appliances and rubber bands, and spent the treatment period with a tingling sensation. They also filed down my pointed canines here and there, so the shape came out quite pretty. My satisfaction after orthodontic treatment is about 4.5 out of 5 stars.
That’s because I developed common side effects after orthodontic treatment, including gum recession + gingivitis/periodontitis The gingivitis/periodontitis may have happened because I couldn’t floss my teeth cleanly during treatment. But gum recession seems like a side effect many people commonly experience because of the weight of the appliances + the pressure applied during orthodontic treatment It’s such a shame, but even now, when I’m no longer wearing my clear retainer because I lost it and haven’t worn it for about 3 years, my teeth are still aligned fairly evenly!
It was originally a clinic run by one specialist, but it did so well that they expanded and relocated + added two more specialist doctors, so the clinic is always crowded! Please keep that in mind and make a reservation in advance before going.
Also, all the staff, including the front desk staff, are extremely kind. They don’t act curt or examine you carelessly, and they explain the cause of the problem and treatment method clearly and systematically. They explain it at a child’s level. I also received root canal treatment there, and they really examine everything meticulously. I recommend them!
