Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

My story of double-jaw surgery for a protruding lower jaw, after being told I looked much more handsome at my military unit and university

It has already been three months since my double-jaw surgery for the stress caused by my protruding lower jaw, haha. I had double-jaw surgery and cheekbone reduction together with Dr. Shin Hee-jin at [Clinic A], and these days people around me often tell me I look much more handsome, so I have been feeling great every day!!

In high school, I was diagnosed with a Class III malocclusion because of my protruding lower jaw. After becoming an adult, I was told during an orthodontic consultation that surgery would be necessary to move my jaw back. I decided to undergo surgical orthodontics and started presurgical orthodontic treatment, but during the process my existing protruding jaw looked even more prominent, which caused quite a lot of stress T_T

Especially during my military service, I was often told that I looked dissatisfied or scary. As I even acquired nicknames related to my jaw, my confidence in my appearance fell considerably. I was always conscious of my jaw when taking pictures, too. So, as my discharge approached, I decided to finally have the double-jaw surgery I had been deliberating over for a long time.

At first, I simply wanted my protruding lower jaw improved and my projecting jaw brought back. But after consulting with Dr. Shin Hee-jin and the counseling manager at [Clinic A], I gained a much better understanding of the surgery. They understood my facial shape and the improvements I wanted, and explained everything in detail, from how the double-jaw surgery would proceed to the safety systems during surgery and postoperative recovery care, which reassured me. Most of all, I trusted Dr. Shin Hee-jin because she spoke confidently about the surgical plan, so I chose [Clinic A].

I was actually satisfied from the first week after surgery lol. The swelling was quite severe at the time, but I could already see that my impression looked softer, so I remember looking forward to seeing the swelling go down day by day!! I was discharged from the military in my third postoperative week, and everyone at my unit told me I looked handsome, so I left the military incredibly happy haha. I cannot believe that was already three months ago; time really flies.

Before surgery, I was so self-conscious when walking through crowded streets that I would look only at the ground or avoid those places altogether. Now, that burden has largely disappeared. People around me keep asking whether I had my eyes or nose done, and sometimes even I look in the mirror and wonder whether my nose was always this high lol. I think it is because my overall facial proportions changed as my protruding jaw was moved back.

There really is a reason people say double-jaw surgery gets better if you just endure the first month~! At first, my nose was blocked and my jaw hurt whenever I ate, which was uncomfortable. But after a month, those symptoms disappeared, and now I am doing perfectly well without any discomfort. If anything, I have been eating noticeably more lately, so that is what I am deliberating over now lol.

I live outside the capital area, so [Clinic A] only performed the surgery, and I am receiving postoperative orthodontic treatment at the local dental clinic I used to attend. When the orthodontic dentists and dental hygienists saw my progress, they said doctors in Seoul definitely perform surgery well and praised my results as excellent, which made me feel even prouder for no particular reason haha.

Now that it has been three months, the new semester has started and I met my university friends again after a long time. Since I had double-jaw surgery and facial contouring together and my facial shape had changed so much, I thought everyone would recognize it immediately!

But their reactions were much more surprising than I expected lol. Everyone I met only asked why I had become so handsome or whether I had lost weight, and they genuinely did not know until I told them I had surgery first. It was even more fascinating because they were not just saying it out of politeness; they really had no idea lol. I suppose it is because I did not directly alter features such as my eyes or nose, but changed my facial shape and overall proportions instead!! The change is definitely noticeable, but it does not look artificial; I simply look naturally more handsome, which makes me personally even more satisfied!! haha

These days, during the change of seasons, I am also glad I had double-jaw surgery whenever I wear a mask. In the past, even a large mask felt extremely small on me... But after having double-jaw surgery and facial contouring together, masks now actually feel too big lol haha. Above all, I am so happy that I no longer hear people call me a handsome person hidden by a mask haha.

Now that my long-standing protruding lower jaw has improved, I have gained confidence in my appearance, and everyday life itself feels much more comfortable. I began double-jaw surgery because of my protruding lower jaw and malocclusion, but now I am truly satisfied that both my appearance and functional comfort have improved. It has only been three months, so I am also looking forward to seeing my facial shape settle more naturally as the remaining swelling goes down!! From now on, I want to live well with confidence haha. Thank you so much, Dr. Shin Hee-jin, for operating on me and helping me regain the facial shape I wanted and a comfortable daily life!
