Before surgery, rather than being large overall, my face looked wide from side to side when viewed straight on. Especially in photos, there was a lot of empty space beside my cheeks, making my face look flat and broad It was worse in front-facing photos than from the side, and even a slight mismatch in angle made my face look much wider. Since I was also self-conscious about my mouth shape, taking even one photo took quite a while. At first after surgery, the swelling was severe, and sensation in my cheeks, gums, and philtrum was dull, so recovery felt quite long. Looking back now, my face really changed little by little each month. Around month two, sensation in both cheeks, gums, and the philtrum gradually started returning. Eating became much easier than before, but very hard foods still seemed difficult, so I was careful until month three ^^ I think my swelling went down a little more slowly than other people’s, so I walked a lot whenever I had time. From then on, my facial shape gradually started to show. A friend I met after a long time said as soon as they saw me that my face had become really small lol, and said that even from far away, I stood out among people because my face was so small. I had been used to my face looking broad, so hearing that made me feel happy that it really had changed.. haha. Around month four, most of the major swelling had gone down and my overall impression became softer. Once the outer contour of my face was refined, my features also seemed clearer than before. At that time, I had been undergoing orthodontic treatment for about a month. After double-jaw surgery first established the overall framework of my facial shape, asymmetry, and lip line, continuing orthodontic treatment made my overall impression look cleaner as my teeth became more orderly haha. By month five, I had removed my braces and almost all the major swelling was gone. Early on, I constantly checked my swelling and facial changes, but around then I stopped checking every little thing and simply lived comfortably. It also felt good that everyone I met after a long time told me I had become prettier ^^ In particular, before surgery I had worried about developing the characteristic mouth shape associated with double-jaw surgery, but mine came out naturally without that look, which made me very satisfied. Now it has already been six months, and comparing my month-five photos with now, there is still a subtle difference. As the swelling remaining around my cheeks and jawline decreased further, my facial contours felt refined one more time, and the impression I give in photos became much more relaxed. In the past, I disliked my facial shape and mouth, so I often retook several photos after taking one, but these days that has almost disappeared lol. Even a few months ago I thought it had improved a lot, but looking at those photos again now, it is amazing that I look even more refined than then. At the clinic, every postoperative checkup included careful checks of my sensation, discomfort, and recovery, and they explained the precautions each time, which reassured me greatly. I was also grateful that they answered my questions well ^^ If you are still early after surgery and worried because of swelling, I hope you won’t be too impatient haha. For me, months two, four, five, and six all felt different, and the facial contours and amount of swelling also differed a little at each stage. After experiencing firsthand how things gradually became more natural and refined over time, I like the current result even more, and I think my satisfaction grew because I waited ^^ Even now, when I look at old photos, I sometimes find it amazing how much I have changed. Overall, I am really, really satisfied with my life now:)
