It’s been 20 days since I removed the silicone that had been in place for over 20 years.

I had even forgotten that I’d had nose surgery, but one day I looked in the mirror and my nasal bridge had turned purple, like it was bruised. After searching around, I concluded it seemed to be because of the silicone, and from then on I frantically researched online and visited plastic surgery clinics for consultations. Since I live outside Seoul, I went to clinics around nearby Busan, and thought I’d go to Seoul if I really didn’t like any of them. After going to over a dozen consultations, my mind gradually shifted from revision surgery to removal. I didn’t want to leave another source of worry in my nose, and I also disliked dermis grafting because the recovery process and outcome were uncertain. Because my surgery was done a long time ago and was a simple method with silicone and AlloDerm at the nasal tip, I thought removal would not be complicated, but most clinics recommended revision surgery. My skin had become thin and calcification had progressed, so the implant was very noticeable. While I was going around for consultations, the color of my nasal bridge returned, so it didn’t seem to be inflammation, but once it was on my mind, I wanted it removed as soon as possible. Most places did not recommend removal, but at the last two clinics I visited, I heard consultations saying removal would probably be okay, and after debating between those two clinics, I decided. That day too, I had been prepared to go to Seoul if I didn’t like the consultations. Anyway, after removal, my nose feels softer day by day and very light. When I read reviews saying the shape can still change even after a year, I do get worried, but for now the doctor says most of the swelling seems to have gone down. They said recovery is fast with removal, and I don’t know if it was meant as comfort, but they said it looks better removed and that my original nose shape was not well suited to nose surgery. So I’m trying to let go of it, thinking that if I really don’t like it later, I can at least get filler. For those 고민ing about removal, if you go to many consultations, I think there eventually will be a clinic that feels right for you. And if it’s a simple silicone removal, I personally don’t think you necessarily have to go all the way to Seoul, but that’s just my opinion, so decide carefully when choosing a clinic.
